Re: cars and how they get that way

Yeah, the 3 is fine. You won't mistake it for an Audi, but the upper level trims are about as good as you can reasonably expect from a non-luxury badge, especially if VW is dropping the ball there.

Re: cars and how they get that way

The GTI will definitely perform better than the 3 and probably feel a touch more luxe on the interior . It felt a bit too midlife-crisisy for me to actually go with, but I thought long and hard about it. Really? All Golf/Jetta I have seen post 2011 have gone with that hard plastic crap used in most...

Re: Rand Paul.....sigh.

Maybe there's nothing that Rand Paul can do, but then why, exactly, are we supposed to like him? For all I know he's a totally great guy in person. If I lived next to him (and I wasn't part of the Great Lawncare War of 2017) maybe I'd love the guy. Well, I don't live next to him. I don't know him. ...

Re: cars and how they get that way

My most recent former GF bought a Mazda 3 this summer. It drives nice, although I would describe the ride as "firm to hard". I chalked it up to large wheels and relatively low profile tires. The center console controls repeatedly aggravated me, but I can't remember why. I think that the Volume/Sear...

what do you use to thicken gravy or soups that are low-carb? Like instead of a rue? I use self-loathing, personally. That always separates on me and I end up with thin gravy with huge lumps of congealed self-loathing. You can dissolve the lumps with atonement, but that's so much work and messy. I j...

I’d not heard new calls for job guarantee. It’s a thing stupid people bring up every 15 years or so though. Bernie, bro. Yeah, be ready. It's going to be huge in 2020. Yeah, 2020 is going to suck. My schadenfreude at any defeat Trump might face is going to be mitigated by the sheer stupidity of wha...

Sure he could be like his dad but what good did that accomplish? For that matter, what good has Rand accomplished? Every time he gives in to Trump I hear people excuse it by saying "Yeah, well, this isn't worth expending political capital on" -- well, when the hell IS he going to expend political c...

I have very little to contribute to this thread that hasn't been said better, beyond cosigning the 'troubadour cultural mythos means dudes get in to get status and the ladies not just to express themselves' theory as a significant player in this.

But also a shoutout to Warpaint.

Angus bulls are annoying assholes. It doesn't take much for bulls of all breeds to go well beyond annoying. This and the discussion of PF McManus in the TITTFPWDD thread, remind me of one of his bits on classification of cows as applicable to fishermen. The Great Cow Plot All cows are fishing enthu...

It is exactly what people are doing when asked "What's the legal basis for deploying ground troops to Syria?" Pretty much.
