Re: Orange is the new President

It is exactly what people are doing when asked "What's the legal basis for deploying ground troops to Syria?" Pretty much. The post-9/11 AUMF seems to be treated as authorization to get involved in any fight where at least one combatant is either a Muslim or has Muslim friends. ... or is brown. Wel...

It’s definitely a thing. And at first I feel bad for people. But then I realize they’re angry in an uncool way and I’m like...oh, another one of these. Why are there so many? I blame online dating or something. They seem to have a lot of complaints about women’s profiles having height requirements ...

I figured they just stayed in the driveway and honked the horn. horn! get it? rhino? honking the horn? see, it's funny because rhinos have literal horns on their noses, but also honking the horn of a car is a common way to announce your presence. it's even funnier because it implies that the rhino ...

This looks terrible, but artist sketches are notoriously bullshit even when the person is really trying. I mean, the one actual witness to the Unabomber attack ended up accidentally giving a sketch of a completely different person. So the sketch of the hoodie dude with the awesome 'stache and kickas...

My car history is mostly cushy to moderate rides. My history is pretty much: '69 Fairlane 500 wagon, ('84 Crown Vic wagon)*, ('90 Ford Ranger), '77 Caprice Classic wagon, '92 Taurus wagon, '00 Volvo C70 coupe, '00 Audi Allroad wagon, '08 Subaru Outback, ('08 Kia Rio). Of those the Kia, Ranger, and F...

Re: Alternate histories

Changes in weather patterns are likely to have more of an effect, especially if it changes where glaciation happens, which it should. Caveat that we're getting WAY into hypotheticals now, but I suspect it would marginal differences here and there rather than wholesale. Where it could make a differen...

I gotta think continental drift goes completely different (but not necessarily just 'the opposite') if the earth's spin is reversed. I doubt it. Coriolis effects are pretty tiny compared to the forces at work in tectonics, especially at the very low relative velocities. It makes a difference in flu...

That's normal Denver weather for five months of the year, and only slightly abnormal for another three or four months. Wednesday to today was 80, 75, snow, 55, 65, 70.

That's what I drive, and I like it. Enough power without enticing me to go nuts. Great gas mileage on mine with the energy recapture system that charges a supercapacitor while coasting/ breaking But does it have enough power to tow a lion? https://thesoniashow.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/quietyou.j...

Re: cars and how they get that way

A friend is looking at getting a new hatchback, so I went along on some test drives. The Mazda 3 hatchback with the 2.5 engine was impressive. It felt like a driver's car and not just a transportation appliance for someone who hates cars. The digital screen in the center of the dash was not a good ...

Having a friend or family member, someone you know is a decent person, in a demonized group can make someone rethink their previous opinions.
