Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

Right but he can't vote for it, either. Do they have to get 50/51 votes to pass? Or is 49/48 a win? Actually, if I recall correctly, if no Democratic Senators are on the floor and McCain is absent, there isn't a quorum. I forget the circumstances under which Senators can be required to be on the Se...

Re: Orange is the new President

It reminds me of that scene in a Few Good Men, when Nicholson says "Hey corporal, get me the President on the phone. We're abandoning our position in Cuba." "Yes, Sir." This. What bothers me is that the same guy who wrote that line wrote The West Wing , too, and that I'd actually be happy if Aaron ...

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

Sufficient grounds for impeachment and removal are whatever has enough votes in Congress. Teapot Dome certainly ruined whatever was left of the Harding Administration and his Sec. of Army did get convicted of bribery and sent to prison. The law isn't troubled by the "correlation isn't causation" adm...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

Redd Foxx was the best known, but there had been "party albums" at least as far back as the early to mid 50s and they were, of course, arguably illegal in most states on obscenity grounds. Lehrer self-recorded and promoted his first "album," though it was subsequently picked up and released commerci...

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

Does the EU have protectionism in some sectors? Yes, but so do we. It would be better if both sides eliminated them. Exactly. Trump has fixated on Canada's 'Supply Management System' for agricultural products and ramped the rhetoric on it up to 11. I hate the system, which caters to and enriches a ...

It's not all that bad in its depiction of the early days of contemporary stand-up, either. I eagerly await the next season. There is a nit I feel the need to pick. In the last episode, Lenny brings Midge on stage and she's like "I'm sorry. You came to see him and you have to listen to me first. I p...

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

Honestly, the fact that so many people think Trump's corruption is normal is probably more threatening than his actual corruption. The damage his corruption is doing is in making that look normal. It's not; it hasn't been in decades; and it's both important to make it abnormal, and to make people b...

I signed up for a 30 day trial of Amazon Prime so I wouldn't have to pay for shipping. I'm trying to make the most of my thirty days by watching prime shows and movies. Re: Music for the Masses

Paul Simon started out a bit wobbly, but he found his voice, which would of course still be much improved by joining Garfunkel, and his backing musicians were excellent. The final encore "American Tune" and "Sounds of Silence" almost brought a tear to my eye.

Re: The Rock Hopper Complaint Dept (Expanse spoilers)

Miller was the only character I found sufficiently interesting to carry the first season and a half. I welcome his return. The poor man's Firefly / Dark Matter has always struck me as The Young and The Restless in Space. There hasn't been enough coverage of the Belt since Mars and Earth went at it, ...

What happens if the US doesn't impose an oil embargo on Japan, Japan doesn't attack Pearl Harbor, and the US support for the war against Hitler doesn't go past Lend Lease? England negotiates a deal with Hitler, who essentially rules Continental Europe at least until he attacks Russia. Japan becomes...

Last year federal officials managed to "lose" almost 1500 migrant children. No idea where any of them are. http://www.startribune.com/the-latest-fed-agency-says-it-lost-track-of-migrant-kids/480986621/ If we libertarians were in charge they'd be fitted with tracking collars so as to avoid any loss ...

Ford rewrote their programming to make a coup happen. They aren't truly acting on free will. Presumably he also deleted fireblank.exe from the relevant directory. I think that's ambiguous in the case of Dolores, Maise and Bernard. They are far and away the most self-aware an I haven't seen any clea...
