Oh come on man. That’s something you get away with in high school, or at best some blow off class in college. Why can’t I get a boss that doesn’t know that Jabba the Hutt was an intern and instead get the dude who asks why those 7 lines add up to 114 instead of 100*? https://twitter.com/marthagimbel...

I will go to my grave believing Devin Nunes' lawyers put this image as an exhibit in his lawsuit against Twitter because they hate him and want everyone to see it.

Re: People Love Crony Capitalism

There were sub prime mortgages issued that for various reasons, not just interest only but also just "wouldn't normally qualify" sorts of cases. Those for various predictable reasons wound up in foreclosure because they were predicated on housing staying white hot. So, yeah those foreclosures happe...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Private insurance in the UK isn’t expensive* though. Most people choose to go without not because they’re priced out, but, presumably, because the value isn’t perceived to be necessary.

* According to this, it’s £30-£120 a month, which is not nothing, but not exactly limited to the bemonocled

My understanding is it lets you jump the queue, choose your surgeon/hospital, and allows you to get uncovered care/treatments like specialized sports medicine or treatments deemed too expensive by NHS. Also, it gives you access to private medical care and private hospital rooms (basically covers the...

Related to my comment on the other thread regarding kids' fevers, I feel like all the horror stories you would read in libertarian/conservative publications about the horrors of NHS and socialized health care are bullshit. Granted, I haven't tried to get a hip replacement, but for all of the health ...

Re: When journalism goes bad

No shocker, the NYT editorial board doesn't understand risk and how it's not all black n white: Mr. Elwell has insisted that the F.A.A. made its decisions solely on the basis of safety. But if safety was the only consideration, then any risk would have warranted action. True. Though this FAA action...

So, the UK Parliament rejected May's second Brexit deal yesterday.

Today, they voted to reject a 'no deal' Brexit:

British lawmakers vote against no-deal Brexit as EU divorce looms

What magic unicorn do they think will get them out of this mess?

Does anyone have a good explanation for why prices won't just rise to wipe out the gains of UBI? Is it because the payments are balanced against not using other safety net services? There's a lot of stuff the money can go to, luxury and staple. So all of it will go up a little due to inflationary e...

Feels kinda weird that Mossimo has a fashion designer. That sounds like quite an inflation for just coming up with a bunch of different ways to write "MOSSIMO" on a t-shirt.
