Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

Let me add that I have nothing against SJW criticism or people that go for hard truths, but the people that build their whole identity and brand around that stuff tend to be just as intellectually deficient and thin skinned as the people they oppose, just on the other side.

Re: Brexit: what say ye?

So they want hard Brexit+Good Friday Agreement? Why not tell them that hard Brexit means violating the Good Friday Agreement and they need to decide whether or not they want to go there? Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk Considering the Tories are only in power because of the DUP (NI Unionists)...

Grade inflation numbers: https://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/07/14/the-history-of-college-grade-inflation/ Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk Grade inflation doesn’t matter because no one looks at grades except for grad school and grad schools can distinguish between joke majors and real maj...

Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

I have found at my office that there are things you can’t talk about. Interestingly, it changes based on level. If I’m talking with peers, I’d probably lose a ton of status for supporting Trump. However, a couple levels up, supporting Trump would be fine, but supporting Warren or Bernie would put me...

Re: Brexit: what say ye?

No. Because that would violate the Good Friday Agreement. So they want a soft border with RoI, no border between NI and the rest of the UK, but a hard border with the rest of the EU, which is unworkable.

Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

But that’s the thing, they’re not going dark. They’re fucking everywhere. Published in mainstream publications with a ton of fanfare. It’s like saying Pulp Fiction and Scream were indy hits and ignoring that their studio was owned by Disney. Make your argument and cut the victimhood bullshit. Especi...

Re: Make School Hard Again

Hahahahahahahahaha. This dude thinks employers care about your GPA. Also, it would be nice to see some numbers to back up the claims. I have no doubt that grade inflation is a thing, but has affected everyone pretty equally. However, the stats show that the ratio of people who have some college vs a...

Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

Is that what happened to anyone? Peterson basically stopped publishing, practicing and teaching because he found the political arena more lucrative. I’m legit curious if any of the people actually got blackballed or its something that’s said because victimization narratives are good for sales. Peter...

Re: Brexit: what say ye?

Part 2 is why you have elected representatives. Part 1 is now, “ You’ve seen what a shit show this whole thing is with an assortment of shit sandwiches. Do you really think Jacob Rees Mog has the right idea?”

Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

So literally just like the entire social justice movement and every single article about identity from the median to the left for the past decade. Yeah, that's how I understood IDW when I first read the phrase. It wasn't defined by those in the IDW, it was defined by who was silenced by the intelli...

Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

IDW is a stupid label that is poorly defined made up by Bari Weiss. Also, for all the claims of being willing to engage people they disagree with, they usually only engage with people they disagree with politically on the narrow things that they all agree upon. You don’t see guys like Shapiro and We...

Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

Agree with Nicole. Are Josh Barro, Conor Friedersdorf or Julian Sanchez IDW because they have views that cut against their tribe? Or even on the more pure liberal side, Jane Coaston? For the latter you can much more defensively say she honestly engages with people who disagree with her (though usual...

Re: Intellectualism: Dark and Webbed

Ben Shapiro actually said that science and the scientific method is unique to the Western world. I mean I know the dude hates Arabs, but goddamn that’s stupid. If that guy is a conservative thought leader, Trump makes waaaaay more sense.

Re: Brexit: what say ye?

They do. It’s basically a political consideration document. What pisses me off is the private sector has planned for all of the possible outcomes, but the Brexiteers refuse to spend the money and risk the capital to pull it off. Like go out and build the customs checkpoints that are needed if a hard...

Re: Brexit: what say ye?

In 2016, the Tories made a commitment to have Theresa May be their Prime Minister. In 2019, they realized what a colossal mistake it was, went back and voted and changed their mind. But in the end May means May.

Re: What's New at the Bijou?

I love NR movie reviews. They are so bonkers that reading them makes me feel like I'm high even when dead sober. Like this Aladdin one is especially bonkers . It's one part "Will Smith as genie is bad because he is evocative of Uncle Remus". But, Uncle Remus is actually good so Disney should re-rele...

Re: Horrible, Offensive Geekery

At the risk of being too arrogant about our current understanding of the universe, I don't think there are any technologically usable forces beyond the big 4. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of discovering new interactions as we learn what dark matter and dark energy are, but there's strong evi...
