Re: 17-Year-Old Says 'I Could Buy an AR-15,' Gets Arrested

Dangerman wrote:Plenty of non US places have walls, gates, and guards around their schools. That seems more reasonable than arming existing staff.
Aren’t those places typically dangerous kleptocracies protecting the elites that have looted their citizens?

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

Also, life is misery makes a lot more sense when a paper cut can kill you and the child mortality rate is 30%+. Misery now compared to misery a century ago is a joke. Calling relationship problems or life being a bit difficult "misery" shows a complete lack of proportion.

And in the case of "arm the teachers" introduce a bunch of new problems. That one, very likely is the stupidest proposed solution.

All the people saying the FBI dropped the ball on the kid in Florida, was he doing anything illegal that the FBI could have credibly done to stop him? The guns were obtained legally. A neighbor apparently reported that he was shooting his handgun in the backyard, which is reckless endangerment, and...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

Note it says things like video games being mainstream, despite Nintendo, Sega and Sony making billions in the 80s and 90s. Well akshually...I think they're right. If you'd put that you were into Star Wars or video games on a dating profile as recently as 2008, you'd be the subject of mockery, pity,...

To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

The thing that strikes me as odd about this is that nerds in general got excited, at first, for their cultural icons hitting the mainstream without people, "Well actuallying" about Lou Ferrigno. Was there a huge number of press articles talking about how Ang Lee was the first person to ever bring T...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

I would note that Blade never had the same cultural cachet as Black Panther. Also, to use a boxing analogy, Blade was more of an undercard fight, while BP is treated as the main event. The thing that strikes me as odd about this is that nerds in general got excited, at first, for their cultural icon...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

I liked the movie, loved that the bad guy and the conflict wasn't some crazy unrealistically powerful big bad. The other thing that I liked is that the futuristic city still had parts that looked like a city and the source of the conflict was believable. There weren't parts that made me wonder when ...

With the news that the Russians went after Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, I can expect both of them to endorse the Russians for president. But don't worry, Rubio will subtweet them with Bible verses.

I'm aware, I just wanted to release the dhex (hence Mission Accomplished). Almost all great art is political commentary. i just can't resist leveling up my "pedantic twat" skill stats. It was helpfully explicated by one of the Reddit commenters: in Sleeping Beauty, the masculine represents civilization and reason and the feminine represents chaos and benightedness. So the handsome prince kisses her awake, symbolizing civilization's awakening of irrational humanity. But it's impor...

Is an issue of the NYT art? Is it political propaganda? I don't think his point is strong or relevant, but I don't know that he's flat out wrong. 3 . Ulysses by James Joyce - Apolitical so deeply disagree with this that I'm in a pit yelling through a microphone. http://www.macrobusiness.com.au/wp-c...
