Re: State of Emergency

Man, some people are freaking the fuck out and having to be called down by explanations that this doesn't mean he's seasoning absolute power. No President will ever seize absolute power. They'll just seize a bit more power than their predecessor, while Congress comes closer and closer to being a ve...

Re: the entirely civil and thoughtful israel thread

Criticizing "money in politics" and "lobbyists' money in politics" is bog-standard on both sides of the American political aisle, and doesn't suddenly become anti-Semitic just because the lobbyist money in question comes from Israel. EDIT: I just-now saw this post from you: "It helps to clearly pre...

Re: the entirely civil and thoughtful israel thread

I don't see what's anti-Semitic about "It's all about the benjamins, baby" (specifically in response to Greenwald's tweet) -- that's such a well-known hip-hop slang term for $100 bills (or large sums of money in general) that even *my* white self has known about it for years. Perhaps find someone a...

Re: the entirely civil and thoughtful israel thread

It is literally no different than critiques the left makes about the right wrt the NRA or the right makes about teachers’ unions. PACs buy influence and people criticize PACs for said influence buying. Also, literally the first bill passed by the Senate (S1) is an AIPAC supported bill that allows th...

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

Yeah, but there's a difference between those who live paycheck to paycheck because the paychecks in question are too small to cover everything and have much left over, versus those with my cousin's bizarrely short-sighted attitude. (Or, the difference between saying "I'll pay $61.34 this month beca...

Re: the entirely civil and thoughtful israel thread

The president makes genocide jokes about Native Americans and even Congresscritters from states with a large population defend him*. There is pretty much no universal pushback.

* Granted said critter is a Republican and a Cheney and therefore probably cool with genocide.

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

Semi-related: when I was teaching, I remember, when you started a school year you had two payment options: basically, get paychecks once every two weeks only for the nine months-and-change of the school year, or get smaller paychecks every two weeks for an entire 52-week year including the next sum...

The only thing that makes it feel less doomy is that the people that are losing money are VC investors, Saudi and Asian wealthy doodz and the like. There’s a lot fewer of the mom and pop “I heard of this internet thing” money sunk in.

The Post has the best investigative reporters out there because they read Bezos’ Medium Post?

Also, if Bezos’ dude is right, the Enquirer was just laundering Saudi spy craft.

Calling 2024 for AOC

I dunno, it doesn't seem any crazier than the idea that another trillion dollar tax cut will somehow trigger an explosion of prosperity. Kind of like using the credit card to buy a bunch of crap versus sending all the money to televangelists. Both dumb, but at least the former leaves you with mater...

Re: Calling 2024 for AOC

Yeah, the fact that the deficits have either done a full 180 (Mulvaney) or have just muted their criticisms (conservative intellectuals that were shouting about deficits during Obama and mumble on occasion now) are largely to blame. It has basically made the idea of fiscal responsibility a complete ...

Also, don’t host your content on the same man’s servers. What is interesting is that theoretically, Bezos could Gawker them, but their assets and, even if they delete it, make a claim on the cached logs and put Pecker in an uncomfortable position.

Yes, we’re still doing phrasing.

If they cut off the Bronx part of her district or make is relatively smaller, they can totally ice her out. The D legislature is pretty conservative.
