I feel weird having to point this out, but the Oscars are not a relevant indicator of the quality of a film or contribution thereto. The Oscars are prom that only the popular kids are invited to.
Which made Moonlight's win and the way said win was announced so satisfying.

Re: It doesn't matter if you're black or white

My observation is that there are a higher proportion of interracial couples in the UK than you would find in the US (and my comp is London to NY/LA, so it's a fair comparison). London is ~15% black and what you'll typically find is the British nationals are more likely to be in interracial relations...

Re: Words I Happen to Dislike

Not one word, but a phrase: "baby bump". What are we, five years old? It's perfectly descriptive and unambiguous. What's the alternative? Not talking like a cover of Cosmopolitan or Us Weekly . And the word/phrase you would use in its place would be...? I guess "belly", which strikes me as a perfec...

Just because something wasn’t up for Best Picture doesn’t mean it wasn’t a worthy film. Groundhog Day didn’t get a nomination, but it was better than The Fugitive. Nothing is beating Schindler’s List that year though.

Saving Private Ryan, American History X and Bulworth were better films in 98.

That’s right, Bulworth.

More than 300,000 Americans have died from overdoses involving opioids since 2000. President Donald J. Trump has mobilized his entire Administration to address opioid abuse by directing the declaration of a nationwide Public Health Emergency.

Solo is not better than Rogue One. That was probably #3 of all the movies.

Re: I wanna see that!!!!

More than any other war, WWI pisses me off as such a pointless destruction of human life. More than other wars. Neither side had a good reason to be involved. It feels a bit fresher as I went to the Imperial War museum last month and there is a massive amount of the museum devoted to the Great War (...

The UK. I feel bad for May and think she’s done about a good a job as she can do with the shitty hand she got dealt. When you’re sitting at the table with an off suit 2 and 6, there’s not much you can do.
