Re: Orange is the new President

Looks like the Republicans remain intent on killing the 401k for some weird reason. Lawmakers are looking at proposals that would allow 401(k) participants to contribute significantly less than what is currently allowed in a traditional tax-deferred 401(k). An often mentioned amount is $2,400 a year...

Re: Orange is the new President

Kevin Williamson is a great writer who is basically always wrong, and the answer to why the GOP became what it is seems obvious. it's hard for me to see the decline of the conservatism as anything but inevitable after the GOP embraced the Southern strategy (all that is important is that no black ma...

This is an interesting take on Trump as the latest in a line of Perotistas and Buchananites who misidentify the problems of the white underclass as much as the Democrats do: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/452910/white-working-class-populism-underclass-anti-elitism-acting-white-incompatible-c...

The way to solve this is mandatory military service. If every fucking moron has been in the military, then more people will understand that they're regular people and not talismen of honor.

I'm really confused about why MS was able to get a patch out already, and Google is expecting to take most of a month. Because it's a flaw in the spec, not the implementation, and MS is historically extremely OK rolling out implementations that don't conform to the spec. So what, MS rolled out a fi...

I get that it's complete bullshit, but is it really unconstitutional? Government making aid based on forced associations is pretty clear cut. I could have sworn they had sleazed around that. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it in the name of "gang membership" or "terrorism link," but harder to d...

I also heard folks talking about using blockchain for trade financing, which makes a lot of sense, because you don't have TPS issues that blockchain has, the current system sucks (largely manual) and it's high cost. Payments is a worse fit.

I won't touch Ripple, which I consider a poser since it's not actually a CC Ripple is backed by a ton of retail banks, but is it actually used by them for to settle payments? I just came back from Sibos. From the scuttlebutt I heard, they use Earthport for settlement, which means that cash settleme...

If you dissolve borax and sugar in some water and then soak some cotton balls in it, you can leave the balls in milk caps or bottle caps and it will solve your problem.

Depends on the industry. For example Vornado has long term debt equal to 400% of annual revenue and total liabilities of 500% annual revenue. While Alphabet has long term debt equal to about 5% of revenue and total liabilities at about 18% of revenue.

Why has no one brought up that now what will happen is that the insurance companies will sue the government for money that the law says the government is obligated to pay. Everyone focuses on the fact that Obama was broke the law by distributing unappropriated funds, but similarly, Congress broke th...

Ah, Mark " Obama is unelectable " Penn with some stellar analysis. I guess now he knows why Obama was popular. Also, his point about the NFL protests fails to point out that kneeling for the flag protest became more popular due to Trump. I felt his point was more it's not affecting his polling with...
