Re: Orange is the new President

This bad even for Trump. It would be one thing to be bland and non-committal but openly supportive of Putin is just bizarre. Unless of course you've been watching him be openly supportive of Putin literally this entire time, in which case it's just more of exactly what half the people here have bee...

Re: Rand Paul.....sigh.

Also, the way things like emails get reported tend to be decontextualized. Like if gryll posts were reported, the most inflammatory stuff would get posted without context that it's an inside joke, referring to something else, part of a longer thread, etc.

Occam, Trump, and Russia

My employer has the strictest, most stringent IT security that I’ve ever encountered in my career and people still get tricked by phishing emails. Recently, they stepped up our anti-phishing efforts, with fake phishing emails coming seemingly weekly (they even made a dedicated “Report as Phishing” ...

What Jadagul said. Papadopolis had been indicted and cooperated for 3 months and it only came out after his indictment was unsealed. The only time something leaks is when it directly involves a principal, who then promptly leaks to the media.

Occam, Trump, and Russia

The indictment itself is an interesting read. The depressing part, in a way, is that mostly it wasn't that sophisticated: spoofed email was sent to Clinton campaign staffers telling them to click an embedded link to log on to Google and change their password, they fell for it, and then the attacker...

Reread this. A million presumptions? Maybe one or two. But we know that his campaign manager was working with Kremlin allies in Ukraine, and that his Ukraine office manager is tied to Russia intelligence. We know that his son was eager to get aid from Russia. We know that Russia reached out to his ...

Re: Orange is the new President

I know Trump likes to shoot off at the mouth but that would show an amazing lack of self preservation even by him. Especially someone in no way guaranteed the presidency or other legal cover. "A guy hoping to be elected -- especially one seeking votes from right-wing 'We love the troops'-types -- w...

Oh boy, now Trump wants to redesign AF1's paint job. I'm sure it will have the same understated classiness of all of his other projects.

The most surprising thing is that Irizarry's brother didn't get arrested for hassling the old dude.

Tariffs. All the Wall Street jackasses have been looking at each other like "eh, nobody could be *that* stupid, right? Keep up the buying." Now that it's becoming clear that, yes, in fact, someone is that stupid, and he gets to control the economy until his party sacks up and forces him in line, th...

WTF white people. That's so gross. Makes me want to pull a Rachel Dolezal just to get out of the group. You have to be careful about the inference here though. I think this means (did not rtfa closely) "IF someone strongly agrees that police should strike citizens, that person is with high probabil...

WTF white people. Within the surveys they analyzed, social attitudes and media habits were almost as closely linked to race as consumer behavior was. The racial differences in social attitudes were particularly notable. By a relatively large margin, the view that best predicted being white in 2016 ...

Re: Market Failure!

And I dunno. I'm not a finance guy, but that seems kind of obviously legal to me---if Wall Street bankers aren't going around exploiting the ridiculous fine print in obscure contracts, what's even the point? This is basically the finance equivalent of taking out a huge fire insurance contract and t...

Re: Market Failure!

Ahh Wall Street, making socialist commentaries on capitalism seem accurate. For those that don’t get the intricacies of finance or don’t want to incognito into the WSJ, the short of it is that: 1) Blackstone made a loan at below market rates to a home builder. 2) Blackstone took out a CDS (essential...
