Re: Twitter!

Toad and Bert and Ernie are trending on Twitter. I feel like I have matured and grown wiser because I noped the fuck out and did not try to find out why.

Re: Putin on the Writs

I think (timely hot take here) racism against Middle Eastern and Muslim people definitely got worse after 9/11/2001. Other than that, team JasonL/Kwix. I can't see any objective benchmarks to tell one way or another. Certainly from where I'm standing I see a whole lot of SJW defense of Muslims. The...

Also, indoor soccer has half as many players. So spacing issues are different.

But yeah, comparing indoor soccer to EPL or La Liga is like comparing Arena League to the NFL.

Re: Our National Pastime

I agree. I think a 20% increase in playing field dimensions would do a lot of good in most sports. Unsure if needed as much in the NFL. Except soccer, where they should probably shrink the field 20%. Increasing everything by 20% would leave more open space and therefore provide more scoring opportu...

Re: Our National Pastime

It’s almost assuredly for the more home runs reason. With all the non-revenue generating decorative crap that sits around in a modern ballpark, it’s clear that it’s a way to game the system. Also, NL teams, which is a more pitching focused league, tends to have more foul territory than AL teams. Fou...

Re: Our National Pastime

That's a phenomenon I think we've seen in multiple sports: the pros have just outgrown the field of play. I think the same applies to basketball, and it happened a long time ago in men's tennis. NFL might be getting there too. The players are too big, too fast, and too strong, and the lack of avail...

This is a new, awesome spin on the 'broken windows' theory. The Nazi bombing of London was economically good because it destroyed a lot of old buildings and led to less historical preservation and more development than would have otherwise have happened. http://spatial-economics.blogspot.com/2018/06...

Re: The Abortion Thread

Same with opposition to birth control or, worse yet, calling some birth control abortifacients for not allowing fertilized eggs to implant. The latter means that using breast feeding or NFP as birth control is even worse than medical birth control, as those cause way more embryos to not implant.

While Musk is smoking pot on air, he’s firing employees for finding trace amounts of THC during testing, despite it being doctor prescribed drops.

McArdle says that the Nike ad backfired because of a Morning Consult poll. When it is pointed out that Labor Day online sales were up 31% yoy compared to 17% last year, she complains that its a shallow indicator. Labor Day sales are a shallow indicator. But they’re a deeper indicator than a poll whe...
