I mean it was the #3 box office of 1984 behind Beverly Hills Cop and Ghostbusters. Beating out the likes of Gremlins, The Karate Kid, and Footloose.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was #9 and remains terrible. It made about as much as Wrath of Khan despite being orders of magnitude worse.

I'm not gonna defend every aspect of Temple of Doom, but the opening scene is one of Spielberg's great setpieces. After they get on the plane things go downhill quickly.

The Dark Knight series was good. It makes sense in a post-Alan Moore Batman. The rest of the grimdark DCU is crap.

ToD was terrible, problematic parts aside. I mean, a movie cannot stand on, “Chilled monkey brains” alone.

Green has forced the House to vote on impeachment articles twice before ― in 2017 and 2018 ― when the chamber was controlled by Republicans.

Free Jerry Foxhoven!
But like the question of who fatally shot Shakur in Las Vegas in 1996, the reason for Foxhoven’s forced departure remains a mystery.

I heard that the ADL said that the Sofie's Choice analogy is inappropriate because in the real Sofie's Choice, the mother had to choose between her children, while in this case the child had to choose between her parents. Also is clearly doesn't apply because Sopie is clearly not spelled Sofi. I ha...

Sofi’s Choice. I couldn’t finish the article without tearing up hardcore. At a Border Patrol holding facility in El Paso, Texas, an agent told a Honduran family that one parent would be sent to Mexico while the other parent and their three children could stay in the United States, according to the f...

We've had president trump. Can we really find a reason to not elect john mcafee as our next president? *waves tiny American flag* Yeah that sounds good in theory. But just look at the Trump years. Every day should be a laugh riot with our Clown In Chief, but noooooo all the humor gets sucked right ...

This is the same argument we had in the other place. You can tell either tolerant of the back row story so long as the the back row white kid didn't do something that makes him Deplorable, like wearing a hat which to be fair is just like the holocaust. You can tell an intolerant of the white back r...

I figure this is as good a place as any to link to a longish blog post about Christ Arnade’s new book, Dignity: https://theparadoxproject .org/2019/07/12/affirming-dignity/ I have a lot of issues with the front vs. back row framing itself, and my disagreements with the post go further than that. In contrast to us, there is the “back row.” The thing about the back row isn’t that they are dumb (although we constantly tell them they are and many of them believe us). It’s that the back-row doesn’t value the adulation of the teacher, doesn’t idolize education, materialism, and career like the f...

If We Build It, They'll Probably Still Come

I googled to see if there were any outbreaks of typhus in NYC jails and I found an old NYT article about an outbreak in ‘93 … 1893.

I’m not going to defend the conditions of NY jails, but to compare them as equivalent to the camps is just whistling past the graveyards.
