It was signed into law by that champion of deregulation Jimmy Carter.
Carter was our greatest deregulatory president and it’s not even close.

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

I’m not going to repeat the comments made by the more educated and erudite people above. I will say that while I think the odds of Trump pulling off a steal of the Electoral College are minimal, he is already taking a bulldozer to the institutions and norms that underpin our system. That damage won...

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

I mean that’s at least somewhat consistent. It’s a bit different than “Why aren’t schools doing more remote learning? it’s just as good as classroom work. This is all because of teachers unions featherbedding,” to’ “How dare those teachers think remote learning is remotely equivalent to classroom te...

Yeah but the politics were the opposite. NR was sympathetic though not supportive of the Bundy clan the same way lefties were sympathetic, but not supportive of CHAZ.

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

Am I the only one who noticed that the most rabid advocates of remote learning before the ‘rona are now livid about it. Like remote learning sucks, but back when it was something to put a thumb in the eye of teacher’s unions, conservatives and libertarians were telling us it’s just as in person lear...

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

I have to say "we hit Dow 30,000 but Trump had to lose for it to happen" has to have involved some money-paw wish shit somewhere. I think it was more relief at the situation being resolved than anything else. TBS, the present stock market feels like 1999 all over again. ETA: I wish Mo would drop by...

Re: Whither the Democratic Party?

I feel fairly certain that had Chaz happened at a different time (i.e. No Rona no blm no trump) it would have been covered differently and far more critically by the times etc. It did not make it out to the east coast that often but it's been a busy news year. And anything that could be interpreted...

Not having that problem, but still can't use Tapatalk. Is there some weird trick one needs to do to even find the gryll on that app? Ack! Sorry. Quite a while back we had to upgrade the forums to a beta version of the software (due to changes our web hosting made). Tapatalk didn't work with the bet...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

The Caster Semenya ruling is pretty atrocious and should, theoretically, where anti-trans activists should rally in her favor. The argument that she’s a genetic freak doesn’t really hold water because that’s literally the definition of a dominant Olympic athlete.

“ZOMG how could a group make a commercial about a story that way released yesterday so quickly.” I mean sure the production values are such that a 17 year old could make it in less than an hour, but clearly it’s a conspiracy because it’s 1982 and takes a month to make a commercial. https://twitter.c...

Yeah, going probably NC, IA, MT and the Georgia ones in that order. I probably would skip over AZ and CO (and probably ME) on the assumption that if they don't flip things haven't gone that well.

Counterpoint: I have never heard more people pone for the office than right now. Also, I’m currently experiencing what it’s like to onboard to a new job completely remotely now and it sucks balls. And I’m pretty fortunate that I’m in the same company and I know a bunch of people, but it’s hard. Tomo...

Here is a good demonstration of my point.

Matt Schlapp: Harris "was a lock em up and throw away the key prosecutor.”
Mike Pence: Harris is “weak on crime.”

Can someone translate RW Twitter for me? Is Kamala bad because she's a cop or is she bad because she'll give the greenlight to lawlessness? It was obvious for months that she was going to be the candidate, so maybe pick a story and stick to it. I thought RW Twitter was primarily against Kamala re g...

Noting here that in my case and Hugh's, the issue was also associated with Apple devices -- in my case just my iPhone, in his a couple of Mac computers as well. Re: Revealed preferences time

The implementation has been pretty poor, there's still a ton of uncertainty and there aren't really any solid plans of moving forward. The proof is in the pudding, to be fair, but right now everything seems fine because it's all been a bunch of "maintain status quo until we figure it out". That said...

The one thing that's potentially encouraging is that she made the right noises about CJ reform during the primary and the political pressure from the party will push her towards CJ reform. As Sotomayor has shown, sometimes being a cop means that you know how to fix the underlying issues. This is my ...

Have the Brits done anything brash and hurriedly since the Falklands war? Brash, sure: Brexit, which took fucking forever. But hurriedly? If the people doing the research are Oxford or Cambridge dons and not National Health hacks, I'd have a level of confidence pretty close to Germany. Brexit was p...

Re: Revealed preferences time

I think a lot depends on where it comes from. For instance, if it's from Germany, where they don't appear to have the same kind of political pressure to rush through a vaccine to make Merkel look like a savior, then I'm probably a bit less concerned about it. If it's from Britain or the US, I'm a l...

The "internet commentariat" isn't really the target. The target is "middle class white people who like a good compelli...
