Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

One advantage of having things better under control is that you can loosen some of the stricter rules a bit. The U.K. distancing recommendations on distance are now 1 meter instead of 2 meters. That makes things like school much easier to pull off.

Re: Orange is the new President

It's less about "how quickly can you do this" and more about "are you capable of remembering the number you were just at and subtracting 7 from that in your head, even if it takes you time to number off." Or, in my case, "forget the math... how quickly can you identify which number at each step app...

Re: The Enemy of My Enemy

Cathy Young, while decrying the cancel culture people, actually makes the point for them. At the end of the day, it’s not a principled distaste for canceling, it’s a dispute about where to draw the line. Frankly, the real problem is that people’s employers knuckle under too quickly for the trivial s...

Sure. But I think DeSantis and Abbott don’t change their minds as quickly on stupid shit without Trump in the White House. And if it was President Jeb! Neither do the rest of the Republican governors. If it’s Hillary, Kemp and Ducey are probably still morons.

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

I maintain that a change in administration will not solve the problem of getting everyone on the same page. Concur. That ship has not only sailed, it has traveled partway across the ocean, struck an iceberg, sunk, and is now having a major motion picture starring Leonardo diCaprio made about it. Ev...

Holy shit. Someone made the Trump-Saudi Arabia attack ad that I thought the Blues would be too chickenshit to make. Though they missed adding in the recent terror attack at the military base in Florida during the Trump administration. https://twitter.com/briantylercohen/status/1281648104660365313?s=21

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

So I had some people knee jerk about me being a stupid trumpkin based on my observations that 1) a mask mandate if actually enforced isn't a minor change, it's the illegality of public socializing with food and drink - restaurants and bars and 2) the link above about mask behavior being oddly diffi...

Re: The Enemy of My Enemy

I’m (we’re?) arguing that society deciding things are beyond the pale and end up being shunned is nothing new. The question is where the line should be, not whether or not there is a line being drawn at all is the end of the world. Will things get to hot? They probably already had, but the marketpla...

Re: The Enemy of My Enemy

I think the answer was C) They saw their boss commission a piece by someone that wanted to deploy the military to act indiscriminately against people on the streets where they were which would have put them in danger. If Bennet commissioned a piece by Richard Spencer saying, “Kill the Jews” after th...

Re: The Enemy of My Enemy

You don’t think Tom Cotton’s “No quarter” thing which was the only reason anyone thought of asking his opinion about deploying troops is what led to those responses. Even David French thought that Cotton’s rhetoric was overheated and if it wasn’t for that no one would give two shits about Cotton’s o...

Re: The Enemy of My Enemy

This will make me unpopular with Jason, but Bennet firing was justified. I’m not saying that I would have chosen that over some sort of reprimand, but it’s not a beyond the pale decision. The N.Y. Times commissioned the op ed and reached out to Tom Cotton specifically despite only a day or two earli...

Re: The Enemy of My Enemy

My point about Rowling is if you’re going to invite people to sign a letter about being dedicated to free expression and the argument of ideas, don’t invite people that file lawsuits when they’re on the receiving end. It’s no different from dunking on a letter decrying aggressive prosecutors that i...

I'm sorry that's terrible and a red herring. I mean one place to start would be to ask why you would invite JK Rowling to sign a letter upholding the principles of free speech. Rowling is quick on the trigger to threaten defamation suits for people that criticize her.

Re: Worthwhile intertubez finds

The problem is that NYC has at least 5 government entities to deal with, NYC, NYS, NJ, MTA and the Feds. So, aside from the Feds (which are relatively not corrupt) you have 4 layers of graft to deal with. That’s a lot of people and friends to bribe.
