Re: Observations of the Random sort

The Caster Semenya ruling is pretty atrocious and should, theoretically, where anti-trans activists should rally in her favor. The argument that she’s a genetic freak doesn’t really hold water because that’s literally the definition of a dominant Olympic athlete.

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

“ZOMG how could a group make a commercial about a story that way released yesterday so quickly.” I mean sure the production values are such that a 17 year old could make it in less than an hour, but clearly it’s a conspiracy because it’s 1982 and takes a month to make a commercial. https://twitter.c...

Re: Decision 2020: Who Should I (We?) Contribute To?

Yeah, going probably NC, IA, MT and the Georgia ones in that order. I probably would skip over AZ and CO (and probably ME) on the assumption that if they don't flip things haven't gone that well.

Counterpoint: I have never heard more people pone for the office than right now. Also, I’m currently experiencing what it’s like to onboard to a new job completely remotely now and it sucks balls. And I’m pretty fortunate that I’m in the same company and I know a bunch of people, but it’s hard. Tomo...

Here is a good demonstration of my point.

Matt Schlapp: Harris "was a lock em up and throw away the key prosecutor.”
Mike Pence: Harris is “weak on crime.”

Re: Who's the Blue for #2? (2020)

Can someone translate RW Twitter for me? Is Kamala bad because she's a cop or is she bad because she'll give the greenlight to lawlessness? It was obvious for months that she was going to be the candidate, so maybe pick a story and stick to it. I thought RW Twitter was primarily against Kamala re g...

Re: Damn database problems

Noting here that in my case and Hugh's, the issue was also associated with Apple devices -- in my case just my iPhone, in his a couple of Mac computers as well. But he said he's been using FF and I've been using Safari. Mo, I had pinged Sandy on the FB. Not sure if that's where you meant but, I did...

Re: Revealed preferences time

The implementation has been pretty poor, there's still a ton of uncertainty and there aren't really any solid plans of moving forward. The proof is in the pudding, to be fair, but right now everything seems fine because it's all been a bunch of "maintain status quo until we figure it out". That said...

Re: Who's the Blue for #2? (2020)

The one thing that's potentially encouraging is that she made the right noises about CJ reform during the primary and the political pressure from the party will push her towards CJ reform. As Sotomayor has shown, sometimes being a cop means that you know how to fix the underlying issues. This is my ...

Re: Revealed preferences time

Have the Brits done anything brash and hurriedly since the Falklands war? Brash, sure: Brexit, which took fucking forever. But hurriedly? If the people doing the research are Oxford or Cambridge dons and not National Health hacks, I'd have a level of confidence pretty close to Germany. Brexit was p...

Re: Revealed preferences time

I think a lot depends on where it comes from. For instance, if it's from Germany, where they don't appear to have the same kind of political pressure to rush through a vaccine to make Merkel look like a savior, then I'm probably a bit less concerned about it. If it's from Britain or the US, I'm a l...

Hahahaha the Dems can't do fucking anything right. Why not run Hillary again? Nah, that would have been Klobuchar. I don't like the pick, but I'm not really the target of the pick. The "internet commentariat" isn't really the target. The target is "middle class white people who like a good compelli...

Are people concerned it will have adverse effects on those who take it, or just that it won't work? Because I'd get vaccinated asap but I'd continue distancing for a long time until there are solid assurances it's working to stop spread. More the former than the latter. The swine flu vaccine from a...

I'm a procrastinator, especially when it comes to non-critical medical matters. Plus I'm pretty sure I've already had the virus. The other thing I would note is that a lot is dependent on my risk profile. If I was DAR/RSN’s age I would move much closer to day 1. If I was 25 and healthy, I would wait a couple years. Things like working in a hospital (I.e. Pham) would also change my calculus

UK is a nice place to retire. The authoritarianism of Singapore bothers my principles, but won’t affect my day to day life. I would also be down with somewhere like Portugal as well.

Revealed preferences time

I think our regulatory system for drugs is messed up, but I wouldn’t take the vaccine for at least a year or two after it came out because I’m worried about the slapdash regulatory process around it. Though admittedly, the fact that I had it before colors this. I am, however, concerned about it bein...

I believe these words came from the Pokémon movie, "Life can be a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when there's so much on the line. But you and I can make a difference. There's a mission just for you and me. Just look inside and you will find just what you can do."
