Airlines shrunk seats because people didn’t want larger seats. If you want more leg room, airlines have created a class between coach and business class that is a relatively reasonable cost above. Piffle. On next to no flights is there any option besides sardine class, save that if you book early e...

People complaining about airplane recliners are the worst. Airlines shrunk seats because people didn’t want larger seats. There’s a fine line between edgy and fucking stupid and Robin Hanson manages to blow by that line.

It’s amazing, though unsurprising, how little people know about other universal heath plans. Most have the equivalent of a public option a very small percentage ban private insurance, an even smaller percentage cover dental, home care etc and an ever smaller proportion have no copays or deductibles....

Prosecutors resign after Trump intervenes in Roger Stone case. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/11/us/politics/roger-stone-sentencing.html 1. The president directly interfering with a criminal case is bad and not the sort of precedent I want set. 2. With that being said, fuck these guys. They're hap...

I have the concern about huawei and don’t have a particular take about us having monitoring capability. I mean it’s bad but not the same as chi coms with finger on the pulse. I don’t want China with that kind of ability. The difference being that lots of folks assumed the company was clean and didn...

Re: Living in an Age of Decadence?

Slower productivity growth isn’t bad but it means quality of life will improve more slowly than before. You get jumps in productivity growth in new eras (industrialization, electrification, etc). The most recent burst was the computational driven burst that went from ~1995-2005. The thing is that on...

I don't know what a Beige Book is  The Beige Book is a summary of qualitative, anecdotal observations by the Fed to get a different view of the economy. Something like that story would be an indication of a strong job market. Here's a quote from the most recent Beige Book, "However, snow cond...

Stuff like this is why I find complains about Huawei to be a bunch of bunk. Today I interviewed an 18-year-old for a temp job helping cover my duties after I leave. I know who David French is because Popehat is generally a fan of him. Looking through their recent press releases, I found one defending an animal rights group and another about defending a pro-pot event . And other things aren't "liberal" but aren't about defending conservative groups; they have s...
