Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

The problem is the argument: "Okay, these people sell weapons to the First Order, so that makes them bad. So people who are dealing with them are bad people. But they also sell weapons to the Resistance. That means the Resistance is dealing with them, and thus they're also bad people." The movie ca...

Re: Tiny Triumphs

Found another one yesterday, he'd been off water for a few days. He might not make it. I've got a 7-year-old girl lined up to take them over soon, which'll be good. For all of us. When I was young, I knew a few old guys who had a beef around that they never did seem to get around to butchering. I d...

I'm actually unsure whether he'd be worse . I know he's been doing speaking tours, but I don't know his political deal in the modern era. Now that you mention it... I assumed he was still all-in on American Exceptionalism Foreign Policy, but it's probably been fifteen years since I heard him speak....

Yeah I don't know. I'm very The Fountainhead in my architectural views in that I'm a firm believer that form should follow function. A height limit might drive creative style, but that doesn't mean the city wouldn't be better off with bigger, less creative buildings.

As we were discussing the height limits in DC the other day, there's an article today on CityLab defending the height limit as a driver of creativity in design.

Meanwhile, a Waymo vehicle gets into an accident... when another car crosses into oncoming traffic and hits it.
I like how a driver crosses over the medium and hits an oncoming Waymo van and the headline is "Self-driving car crash in Arizona".

Oh agree. The Norks won’t win, but ROK would win in the same way one wins a knife fight. I'm just skeptical they'd be dumb enough to start it. I go back and forth until settling on "if someone tells you he's a death cultist, wisest course of action is to believe him." I think that would be my defau...

So, wait, is Google a crazy free-fire zone, politically, or is it a lockstep rightthink orthodoxy? I'm sure you could criticize it as being one or the other, but both? Really? It's the latter trying to present itself as the former. Yeah, no. I don't believe that for a moment. Especially when the se...

The most recent Fifth Column podcast touches on this a bit. I's a conversation with Bret Weinstein and his wife about the Evergreen College & free speech on campus thing, and they mention Google & Damore early on. (I'm only about 20 minutes in.) Weinstein is careful to point out that yes, "free spe...

My favorite typo so far this year: This font is ideal for communication pieces, due to its space saving qualities, geometric elegance of its shapes, and eight wights. Nazgul Sans?
