Re: Towing the Lion

I had kind of glossed over that, since everything else on their menu has such goofy names (like "Chicken Fantastic" for chicken alfredo, and why does an African restaurant have chicken alfredo, I'd like to know). Googled a bit and it's supposed to be "suqaar" (basically a Somali name for stir-fry)....

Sounds like a sweet deal to me.

(How does one even get 'sugar' from 'sampler'? What kind of autocorrect is that?)

Re: Idiocracy is here

Count me in with those who don't understand advertising. Most ads I hear make me less, rather than more, inclined to buy the product advertised, and some I'd never buy even to save my life. Totally agree. I don't understand how people grow up in this country without developing immunity to advertisi...

Re: Food

There must have been an overproduction of turkey last Thanksgiving because at the end of the year ground turkey went on sale. We wound up with around ten pounds of the stuff. I have two go-to ground turkey recipes which I've made twice already this year. Thus leading to tonight's dinner: Turkey Burg...

Re: I don't wanna see that!!!!

Ready Player One looks dumb. At some point we need to have a year zero on pop culture nostalgia. I dunno. It looks okay, but probably too young for my geezer tastes. I like the way Iron Giant has become a 'we nerds know it's good' thing. As for pop culture nostalgia, year zero would have to predate...

You only have to read Middlemarch to be exposed to it.
I've never even heard of that and I'm a college graduate and do a fair amount of reading on top of that. There's a lot of stuff out there.
Is it Jane Austin? *googles* Nope,George Eliot. Either way, chick lit.

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I only half-watched Frozen once, but I thought the 'message' of the movie was about family and sisterhood and junk, considering it's about one sister's love saving the other. The trope subversion that, actually, the handsome (foreign) prince is evil is just to move the plot along. I guess you could...

Nobody engages in hitler reclamation projects - but that shit happens all the times with leftist monsters starting with Stalin. Yeah, the problem in modern society is not "there's too much widespread socially-accepted support of Hitler and too extreme damnation of Stalin." There's the right damnati...

I have tried to watch Captain America: Civil War a number of times and just cannot get into it. Mainly what bugs me is that the central conflict between Captain America and Iron Man feels completely unnatural. It really feels to me like it should be the other way around. Steve Rogers being all, "Go...

If Frozen isn’t art, it’s becsuse it’s a corporate consumer product, not because it’s political propaganda.

I don't see how either disqualifies it from being art.
