Re: Iran (so far away)

Like in Fujairah, dozens of ships ranging from massive oil tankers to smaller pleasure boats, traditional dhows and cargo vessels ply the waters of the strait and the Gulf of Oman. The navies of Iran, Oman, the UAE and the U.S. regularly patrol, but the waters are vast and lit only by the moonlight...

Re: I just don't get it

I watched a few "let's play" videos, I dunno like three or four years ago. I think I liked the PinP because I was more interested in the person posting the video than the game. Watching someone else play a game got old pretty quick though. But yeah, CGI avatar is some BS.

Re: Home $weet Home

TL;DR How I acquired something like a Steelcase Leap for $163. So I wanted the Steelcase Leap V2. Found a good price from Madison Seating . Notice that in selecting options, there's an upcharge for "lumbar". I very much wanted the lumbar support which in addition to a higher back was a feature that ...

I don't think DTJr is going to primary Amash himself, and would be better off staying out of MI altogether. In a June 5-9 Practical Political Consulting (PPC) and MIRS survey of just 360 likely GOP voters announced Tuesday (though not yet available online), Lower thumped Amash in a head-to-head matc...

I would not be surprised if Amash lost the primary. If he does, the Michigan 3rd District is going to be (D).
Not a chance. West MI is deeply wedded to the GOP they will vote R no matter what name follows it.

I just Googled the cabinet wraps thing and Holy fuck
To be clear, we're not talking about wrapping the cabinets to change their look. We're talking about wrapping the appliances to match the cabinets so the dishwasher and refrigerator blend in with the cabinets.

Re: The Right Way to View Competing Political Horrors

If you’re going to talk about balance, then shouldn’t PDs have equal or lower case loads to prosecutors? My point is less about public defenders qua public defenders, but about negative rights requiring positive rights, but somehow not counting as positive rights. The defense of a right should stan...

Re: Home $weet Home

I see. The range hood absolutely must provide adequate ventilation, and by adequate I mean enough to keep the vaporized grease from settling beyond the cook top. Beyond that is should provide good lighting and be quiet enough to talk over without raising your voice. Oh, and it should also vent to th...

No exterminations or slavery or forfeiture of property to advance a growth goal.
Did you just toss eminent domain and capital punishment in with indentured servitude as always and everywhere morally impermissibles?

Re: Home $weet Home

Why do some people think it’s attractive / a good idea to pay extra money to wrap your appliances in a veneer so they look like your cabinets? That is some ugly looking shit and it isn’t cheap. Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Cabinet facade doesn't do much for me, certainly not at that price po...

I cleaned the kitchen floor this morning. Unfortunately, I had run out of cleaner, so I used a tiny amount of Pine Sol (2 capfulls). Now the whole downstairs stinks of that stuff. Ugh. ??? First of all 2 capfulls of Pine Sol in your basic bucket is the standard amount. And second, the pleasin' odou...

I dunno, does the practical sense involve things like the environment? Avoiding civil unrest? You call it an unwinding, I think of it as re-orientation. I think people are getting smarter about economic growth and realize that while the number has some important real-life correlations, it's *not* t...

Then the trump thing happened, and the reaction. Now I’m like “fuck all populists”. Their storytelling and popularity makes me feel like that whole idea of the wrong side of history is wrong. The idea of the wrong side of history is right, but only because the people writing the history will be the...

Re: The Right Way to View Competing Political Horrors

As my dislike of the right grew and I stopped identifying them with libertarian ideas really at all, it became “which individual policy do I want to vote for or against”. That is a 100% counterproductive strategy. It only serves to further entrench an establishment that is hostile to personal liber...

Part of the question relates to how you evaluate the coalition - is it the wants of the base, the most vocal candidates, the platform that gets rolled out after sausage is made?
It's that last thing. Everything else is just kabuki.

I remember people posting videos of the FedEx truck standing in front of their house for a few minutes and then moving on without anyone getting out because it was 10O out and the driver didn't want to get out of his warm truck.
