Re: Inequality

While I'm not familiar with the individual childhoods of rock stars, bands like Pink Floyd and Rush (or for that matter every Prog Rock band ever) weren't selling themselves as underdogs. Keeping in mind Rush first got themselves on the map with a song called "Working Man". Don't make me tell their...

I think the only reasonable impeachment case I've heard is emoluments, and I think you have to be careful there. I think it is better by far to win an election, for everyone.
The Dems would have to put up someone electable. I don't see any suggestion of that.

Without wading into the fray here, (I could be in either T's or DAR's camp, depending on my mood) I want to say that DAR's last two posts are among the best things I've ever read on the Gryll.

The use of the royal we is more infuriating than the insistence that five deaths over two years is notable in any sense beyond the orgasmic release that clearly comes from using the royal we unnecessarily. As long as the bodies can be picked up to keep from ruining the view, I would be okay with a ...

"I hope these rape victims help discredit someone I disagree with!" Basically. Of course, it should go without saying that Pinker is bad, and anyone who likes his books needs to be exiled from polite society (at a minimum). Apparently some people in the Twittersphere are all bent out of shape about Disney's new Ariel being Black. I'm not sure how much this is a real thing and how much this is another part of the Twittersphere blowing it up, but it would be stupid regardless. Perhaps the most reasonable of the complain...

Very nice, DAR. I've only driven an NB, but it was one of the sweetest handling cars I've encountered. Only the mid-engined cars I've driven felt better. And the transmission is a work of art.

(TIL medicine is not STEM. Biology is STEM, engineering is STEM, but medicine is not. That's a weird distinction. It's especially weird when you consider that "medicine" is basically "the engineering part of human biology." Exactly. That does strike me as a weird, if not stupid distinction. But it ...

Re: Make School Hard Again

I think a big part of the problem --at high school, college AND university levels -- is that there's two different reasons why one might go to school, and those reasons often get confused: are you there to get an education (or learn a specific skill), or are you there for the credential? Credential...

Let me know when you guys get to grammar.
Abortions are mandated for those who use text speak and optional for those who confuse who/whom. Retroactive abortions are encouraged for those who use corporate speak or engage in SJW-style abuse of clear language.

Joe Rogan's a comic, albeit one who found (not unlike Bill Maher and Dennis Miller before him) that the continuum from stand-up comic to talk show host to political commentator can be pretty seamless. I think even he would be hard pressed to consider himself a public intellectual. I know Rogan as a...

Re: The Abortion Thread

Here's a good way to get Republicans to back off these bills. Argue that personhood at conception means that a baby conceived in the US is a citizen and you can't deport a pregnant illegal alien because you're deporting a US citizen. Bill will be vetoed immediately. There are levels of person, Mo.
