Re: Observations of the Random sort

This is a generational thing. Every goddamn person between the ages of 25 and 40 (and every woman between 25 and 50) knows who she is. Dawson's Creek was fucking inescapable. Then call me Mr. Miracle, because the only things I know about the show are 1) James Van Der Beek standing in a boat and 1) ...

There's still snow on the ground, here. Some of the ice of melting in the sun. As I'm headed in to work, I hope the roads stay drivable.

I'very been just running a wet bar of alum over my skin, lately. It's been surprisingly comfortable, and if I have any nicks, it's less painful and more effective than styptic pens I've used.

There is conservative intersectionality with black church folk. It is a thing.
See Prop 8 in Cali.

If not for the whole racism thing that chases people into Team Blue,, so-cons would be even stronger in this country.

Premise is that group of teens are finding out they have powers; all their parents are part of some secret evil organization. Teen girl has recently learned she has glowy eye super strength, but it knocks her out with exhaustion to use it. One of the evil parents corners teen girl in a coffee shop ...

I for one, look forward to the autonomous vehicle version of the Tide Pod challenge . OK, so trolley problems are passe when it comes to autonomous cars. What about zeroth law problems, to steal from Asimov? Should self-driving cars identify idiots like this guy and deliberately run them over to di...

It's 26 degrees it's been snowing on and off for like eight hours . That, after quite a bit of rain. And it will stay freezing until at least tomorrow afternoon. Snow on pavement is melting instantly, but everywhere else has a fluffy, slowly-deepening layer—rooftops, cars, plants, grass, bare ground...

Well, I guess the question is, enthusiastic consent as a standard for what? ... OTOH, with a person that you don't have much experience with, if you're detecting something is off... Sure, but that's if you're detecting. And if you're not detecting because your partner doesn't want to communicate th...

Re: No touching! - sexual impropriety thread

I'm generally perfectly fine with the idea of enthusiastic consent, but goddamn , I think it's on you if, absent any intimidation or threat or whatever, you go down on someone instead of just indicating in some way that you don't wanna. If you can't bring yourself to say "no", then maybe you just d...

I've been following conversations on Ansari, and they've been split between "that's not any crime, that's two people having an unsatisfactory hook-up" and "he's solely responsible for their not negotiating everything out BDSM-style beforehand". I'm generally perfectly fine with the idea of enthusias...

I mean a ban just reinforces the de facto situation that it's a pain in the ass to spend cryptoBux on legit transactions... No it isn't. It's super easy to spend crypto, legit or otherwise. Unless you're saying it's hard to find legit vendors that accept crypto. Which is still the case, but won't b...

The uncanny valley of music. Though all the comments about it sounding like something off the soundtrack from a late-90s/early-00s teen movie is dead on.
That explains a lot about those songs. Like, their existence.

It's like how heavy metal turns into surf rock when you take away reverb.
