Re: Orange is the new President

David Duke lost 61-39 back in the 90s. Moore coming within 1.5 points is a step backward, not forward. Duke is in many ways better or equal to Moore. Louisiana is not Alabama, and the politics of that day were a lot less crazy than right now. And rejecting Moore after voting in Trump is step away f...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

Dealing with the connection being intermittently shaky was too annoying, and I can't see any benefit at all from the wirelessness---it's not like I'm going anywhere other than my computer desk with it. It's one less cord cluttering up the desk, which is nice. Why is the cord on your desk? The mouse...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

I'll grant more expensive in the short term, since you need to buy the charger and enough batteries to keep in rotation. Long term? I don't know. I haven't bought AA batteries in something like 4 years. The remotes, XBox controllers, and smoke alarms are all in use, and when they die, I take that t...

Re: Orange is the new President

Holy crap, this is amazing! Hopefully the Democrats will learn from this that reaching out to black voters make more sense than trying to win white MAGA maggots over to their side. I can't prove it, but I suspect the Blues 86ing Franken helped them, here. Anyone who rationalized supporting Moore on...

You're supposed to be laughing, not shocked. It's a comedy.
Since when can't comedy be shocking or startling?

Dougie Houser in an SS coat in the middle of a desert is the weakest joke in the movie, by far.

it's as faithful to the source material as starship troopers! Starship Troopers is great! it is! the general anti-consensus on here is that it strays too far from the techno-fascist militarism handjobbery of the book. i'd say it goes all in instead and is great because of it. I say it doesn't even ...

Sure, so both one and two involve the guy acting like an unsocialized idiot. But the middle category definitely happens; a good example is "a homeless person trying to talk to most people under, like, any circumstances whatsoever." Almost anything they're going to do will be inappropriate/intrusive...

In practice a lot of what "creepy" actually means is "does not accurately read the reactions of other people and respond appropriately." Sometimes the emphasis is on the last part, because the creepy person is a jerk. Sometimes the emphasis is on the first part, because the creepy person is clueles...

Re: No touching! - sexual impropriety thread

I dunno, I can sympathize with the idea that some guy thinks Moore is falsely accused and so doesn't care about national opinion, because he knows they hate people like him, anyway. The thing is, how many people in Alabama really think Moore's innocent, as opposed to saying so as a partisan signal? ...

That bit in 2001 where HAL sings "Daisy Bell" as Bowman shuts him down?

It's a reference to that song being the first music performed using computer speech synthesis, just a few years before the movie:

It's a slutty drum. The only thing people can't seem to bang it against is a popular vote win, and I'm probably forgetting examples of that.

Well, a lot of people believe the high school girls are liars A lot of them like to say they think they're liars. Many or most of them think it's true.; too many of his defenders run to the "still better than a Democrat!" line. Those people aren't going to give a fuck about separated vs. divorced.

Eh. He's fucked high-school kids while in his 30s. Who's going to be willing to overlook that, but still be bothered that he dated someone who was merely separated from her husband?
