Re: Sing a Song of the Singularity

So, people have been poking at what weird and socially-biased results you can get by throwing publically available corpuses of information at some quick code to determine positive and negative associations. Some actual code examples. Positive values are favorable, with larger numbers more favorable....

Re: Guns and Whatnot.

Lately, I've been hearing Blues push the idea that libertarians support the freedom to molest children. This won't help.

Re: cars and how they get that way

The Ferrari concept (as I suppose it is until they actually start mass-producing it) is pretty gorgeous-looking for an SUV.

So can we at least ship Statler and Waldorf, then?
Especially if you imagine what they must sound like in bed.

Re: Twitter!

TIL that straight male friends can never be roommates. For 49 years? The police have never rousted that grumpy homeless guy who hangs out in front of their place over the same span of time. Neither have those two guys gone off to an assisted living center, since they'd have to be at least 70 by now...

Re: Debate: Be an Anarchist, Not a Minarchist

If you have a system with people in it, it's going to end up working to punish or reward people on some arbitrary basis preferred by the group in charge. And there will always be some group in charge. You'll never get rid of hierarchy while things have to get done, even if it's just the power dispar...

Re: Debate: Be an Anarchist, Not a Minarchist

Yeah gawd I frickin' hate that one. "And go where" is met with "that's your problem - technically you can do it so fuck you it's a valid social contract*" which is amusing because the Venn is strong with, "Well if you're driven by economic necessity is it REALLY a choice" for sex work or even "capi...

Five pages arguing over the minutia of just how small the government can be. It's like some kind of libertarian discussion board around here all of a sudden.
"But we're already in anarchy, ha!" isn't minutia, it's a proud declaration of having tried to waste the other peoples' time.

And I think Hugh and Nicole are rejecting that framework entirely, and arguing that any concrete political program is unjust. And that means that everyone else is confused.
If they and/or painboy had started with "lulz, we live in anarchy, nothing means anything", we could have saved some time.

Re: Debate: Be an Anarchist, Not a Minarchist

OK, states and anarchy have the same problems and are literally the same. I'd like to see fewer people treated inhumanely because of minor crimes. How will anarchy be any better for that end if anarchy and statism have the same problems and are literally the same? Is it just a relabeling of the sam...

The point isn't in getting rid of [coercive authority], but as recognizing it as illegitimate and responding on that basis. https://thumbs.gfycat.com/MeekMarvelousAmericanindianhorse-size_restricted.gif So in other words, that long list of complaints you had about the status quo was complete bullsh...

So whether your standard is "delivers justice", "enforces rules in a non-arbitrary way", "lives up to its own basic principles", or the very real standard that someone definitely argued for "100% just outcomes perfectly voluntary everyone gets to do anything they want", the system doesn't seem to b...

Wait, wait, wait. You have multiple totally-not-states, but any one or two is going to be able to dictate this exile to all the perpetrator's neighbors, even if they belong to many other totally-not-states. How? It would be similar to when counties and states have policies in place to deal with jur...

If you ever wanted to wanted to pay nearly $600 dollars for a robe (or equally silly amounts for other garments) that looks like it's out of a 90s science fiction movie, here you go.

Right. Bad actors don’t want to live under a set of different rules they want rules to apply to others but not them and seek exploits on an ad hoc basis. Here in America we call that a "legal system". You don’t escape the problem. True, but in my defense "Failure to map out to the micron a system t...

"You can leave it if you want!" Is the usual argument statists make when they don't want to admit that the state is coercive. What's different, here? Well they're talking about a physical location.
