I guess the question I would pose is do you think our government would be in a better place than it is if there were more Rand Pauls in it? I would say yes even if only incrementally.
I don't see what the difference would be.

Re: Rand Paul.....sigh.

Rand Paul has done damn little worth applauding, and none of it recently. What is "the good" that "the perfect" of possibly doing anything worthwhile is getting in the way of?

rand paul is kind of a piece of shit and i think everyone needs to be ok with that.
In the context that all politicians are pieces of shit and he's a slightly smaller piece of shit I can agree.
5'8" is slightly shorter than the average US man.

This is regularly suggested on prog boards. Or at least "regulated like a public utility" or something vague like that. That I've seen, but not open advocacy of nationalization. Beyond the cronyism and corruption, fuck , I don't want to make it any easier for the government to track us. I'd halfway...

people are more butthurt over free stuff not being free than i'd anticipated. this could potentially, ultimately, be positive? Well, if a mass of Trumpkins spring out of the aether to, uh, mass-buy her albums, and she suddenly pretends she never apologized, she can become the Reverse Dixie Chick.

The recording industry took a big hit in the Aughts, but they've been recovering that income roughly ever since they embraced iTunes and other digital outlets. They made upward of 17 billion dollars last year; I submit that they're still recognizable.

Elastica only had one guy, the drummer, and everyone played instruments. But they kind of fell off the world and later dissolved. If you open it up to one dude you can also count Hole Not sure whether that's opening it up or just addressing the claim that such bands are a unicorn category. The Bree...

I finally looked it up, and "Ray Donovan" is...the name of a TV show? Not what I expected.
This is similar to my learning, a little while back, that Aubrey Plaza was not a location or a show.

But their own internal contradictions are perhaps greater than Team Red, as the Team Red stool legs are largely not in tension with each other. Sure, but so long as multi-spectrum bigots can find a political home (and they will so long as there are lots of them, and that's not changing nearly as fa...

Re: Good Cover Versions

Interestingly, a lot of the female singers that I've enjoyed lately tour with all-male or mostly-male groups of performers on instruments. Alice Merton, K.Flay, Zella Day, etc., they mostly have males playing instruments. They're doing well in their careers and could presumably get female backing p...

I am still convinced that Trump will be a long-term disaster for the GOP. I think the GOP is going to lose control of both houses over the 2018 and 2020 election cycles. Get set for a decade of Team Blue rule. It's kind of like how high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea are how our bodies fight off dis...

I agree with Radley Balko's take on this clusterfuck: "As a libertarian, I've voted for candidates from the LP as well as from both major parties. So long as we're stuck with a two-party system, I'd at least like to see both parties be more-or-less sane, rather than have one be the Raving Loony Party. Because for all that the Democrats suck, they're not likely to improve until after the Republicans do, because the Dems don't HAVE to; all they...
