Re: Brexit: what say ye?

And pointedly, the American colonists who were quite familiar with a Westminster system opted to use a completely different system entirely, even at colony levels. Of the Quakers, the slavers, and everyone else, nobody had their legislatures as parliaments by the time of the revolution, and neither ...

Re: Brexit: what say ye?

It's not the UK, but the seemingly-endless reign of Netanyahu is another reason I'm ice-cold on parliamentary systems right now. They seem to have some of the worst features of old-style political machines. Contra Thoreau, I'd rather have literally constant campaigning than some parties dedicated t...

That's a really strange glitch.

I had to log in today, and I crossed my fingers, but obviously had no problem doing so.

Re: Money for Nothing: the Universal Basic Income

I still say it's a matter of people being emboldened to openly say the things they didn't say as loudly before. It's like how that Jacobin Ikea guillotine t-shirt was taken from a cover they're done years before Trump. I think a lot of the hostility toward the centrist Blue candidates from the left,...

Around here, they tend to run the conveyors early and often, so it's hard to really tetris the stuff on the belt. I settle for putting heavier stuff nearer to the cashier and lighter stuff further out; easier to grab and easier for the bagger to put that stuff in a bag first

There's really not much in that article that sounds better, to me. It's 2019, so who gives a shit about radio or tv commercials? I don't want assholes from Teams Red or Blue coming to my door to bother me. I don't want to vote for some party machine that chooses which literal pig-fucker will actuall...

Re: Money for Nothing: the Universal Basic Income

I mention this because -- I know, the plural of anecdote is not data, and even if it were this dataset only comprises "various left-of-center friends and acquaintances I have on social media" -- lately I'm seeing more anger at the status quo, and in a disturbing "let's trash the village in order to...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

That macro is in such tediously bad faith. I've encountered lots of people—Georgists, left-anarchists, people who voted for Nader and then Ron Paul, and people thought Trump was going to be a good president. I've never encountered anyone who's made the socialism/welfare state distinct and then falle...

(Before you try to use Trump as a counterexample, he was viewed as quite moderate during the 2016 election. On average people thought he was more moderate than they thought Clinton was.) "Was viewed" by who? Voters. ...I guess it's entirely possible that the guy with the big neo-nazi fandom, the on...

Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo" stands the test of time, I think. I think by this point, it's getting up on the age of some of the other classics when I was a kid.

Personally I love all the Bernie Bro hate for Warren as a dirty neo-liberal, especially when they turn around and say "Look at the combined support for Warren and Sanders vs Biden—we're much more powerful than the moderates!"

Eh, more like a novelty paint job. Which I'm sure someone's done to a Maserati. I mean, there's a Maserati Ghibli; that's just begging for some rich Miyazaki fan to do something with it.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around someone in 2019 having trouble with the image of a man or a woman owning any of those. They cook, and they like Star Wars stuff. Neither of these are particularly rare interests.
