Re: Pick Your Poisson

In one of my parenting groups, a mom mentioned her son is into My Little Pony but wasn't sure if he should call himself a "brony" in case it had sexual connotations. A bunch of other people chimed in that yes, they're pretty sure it's an X-rated term. Somebody suggested, as a non-sexual alternative,...

"Curated" in 99% of the contexts it's used these days

"Moment" for any aspect of interior design. It's sitting right there 24-fucking-7, it's not a "moment."

Re: Home $weet Home

I've seen many a formal dining room with the table set on an oriental rug and such. Somehow a large area rug is different than installing wall-to-wall carpeting (over a perfectly nice-looking and functional tile floor). Even though large rugs are also a pain to clean. Wall-to-wall carpeting in a di...

Re: Home $weet Home

I got too annoyed at the House Doctor so I switched over to another British staging show, Sarah Beeney's Selling Houses , and it's more of the same. "Paint color on all the walls! Put down carpet!" I mean, she even counsels a couple to turn an unused back room into a dining room BY PUTTING DOWN CARP...

Re: Home $weet Home

Up most of the night with sick kids and ended up watching a ton of House Doctor on Netflix. The premise of the show is that an American designer comes in and helps redecorate British houses that have been on the market for a long time. I personally find the designer annoying and her taste questionab...

Now I'm trying Secret City on a friend's recommendation but I'm having a heck of a time keeping all the male characters straight. They're all pulled from the Glum Potato stable of actors. FUCK SECRET CITY. They had a trans woman character and I was super excited (even though she was played by a cis...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

First few episodes of Bodyguard are pretty good. The titular character is definitely not who I thought he'd be after the opening scene on the train.

Episode 3 has naked man ass, of which I heartily approve

Off Ellie's joy of hate, I watched Tiny House Big Living, the Expressive Tiny Art House episode.
Worth the price of admission. The Mother summed it up well "I am inconsolably proud".
I'm so very glad I could share that ridiculousness with you <3

Ugh, I'd rather cut off my foot than go back to renting. Shared ceilings and floors again? Community laundry room? Noooooooooo. I've had a taste of freedom and I'm too spoiled to go back.

Re: Home $weet Home

Housing prices are officially bonkers right now. There's an 80-year-old, 672-sq ft house in South St. Paul listed for $190K. (I know in some areas that would be a steal in any market, but this is the redneck boondocks of the St. Paul metro, and also it's ST PAUL, not Portland or some shit.) It doesn...

If she doesn't want to move to DC before January, then there's no problem, so she has nothing to complain about. If she wants to move to DC now but doesn't start work until January, this is hardly a problem unique to politics. Are we really failing as a society if we can't subsidize everyone who wan...

Yes, obviously that's the joke, and not "I want to move somewhere without a salary for three months, omg, how is this a problem????" and "Guys this is such a huge problem in America today (except actually it's already being taken care of)"

Oh, FFS. Acosta didn't "become" the story; Trump MADE him the story. Recall how Obama used to spend 10, 15 and even 20 minutes answering a single question — without interruption. Recall how Obama used to actually answer questions? With vague platitudes?

Re: Orange is the new President

Genuine question: is there anything illegal about Trump getting rid of Sessions? Shady, maybe, but genuinely breaking any laws? I'm seeing calls on Facebook for protests saying "Trump is not above the law" and I'm just curious if there actually is something "above the law" being attempted.

After all my swearing I'd never watch Tom Clancy's Jim Halpert on Amazon, I finally threw it on a couple days ago for some half-watching/background noise while I do other things. It's ... fine. Tbh I also don't know who all these people are who are hanging out in the kitchen at entertaining-type times. We don't do that and it doesn't go that way at Dubs' parents' place either. Or at my parents' place where the kitchen is really in the middle of everything.
Same here!
