Re: I just don't get it

Rick Mercer is a Canadian leftist comedian whose primary schtick was "Talking to Americans" where he would ambush ordinary Americans to show how ignorant they were (usually of Canada). I hated the schtick both because it played into a popular Canadian Leftist prejudice and you absolutely know that ...

Re: Dreams (not those crushed by the weight of unfulfilled life)

HORRIBLE nightmare where the kids and I got kidnapped by Neo Nazis and I was trying to protect the kids so every time one of them advanced towards us I would bite one of his fingers off. I don't believe in dream interpretation but I would still love an analysis of why I have so many dreams where I'm...

Re: The Abortion Thread

The bishop in question would not allow himself to be seated near Chris Matthews at a commencement ceremony because Matthews is a pro-choice Catholic. I honestly misinterpreted Chris Matthews as "Chris Hansen" and thought, yeah, I don't think anyone involved in this story wants to sit down with Chri...

Re: Pick Your Poisson

Hey, fellow HOA board lady, I'm sure a snarky "as per my previous email" feels good to type, but it's not really such a great idea when your previous email actually did not reference that topic in any way. (Which you should have noticed when you forwarded me a copy of said email just to underline yo...

Re: Trump's Bogus Argument to Deny Green Cards and Citizenship to Immigrants who Play by the Rules

I don't know if they have had to use any government programs or not. Or even qualified to, without using them? That's the thing that makes my head explode. Our family qualifies for a ton of shit up to and including food stamps, and we both have decent jobs, and we still fit in the income range. I'm...

I would like to try them done right to see if I'd like them! I've had them twice and they were horrifying -- slimy texture with a taste like chewing on grass.

Ahh, my long-suffering spouse. David never knows what kind of new idea I'm going to get briefly obsessed with (nor if I will abandon it and move on to the next thing, or try to make it a reality). Today I'm emailing him about installing a composting toilet in our hall closet :D :D :D

Re: Inequality

Maybe my view is colored by being in the ladder climbing group and largely on teams with other high achievers. Heh, my view is from churches where the pay is shit and there's nowhere to climb. We had a guy who was paid for 30 hours a week and was maybe in the office for 10 and still only got let go...

Re: Inequality

Given the rate of women dying in childbirth, I would think most women would be pretty leery of peasant or hunter-gatherer times. Peasant-commenter's wife is an herbalist and a doula, so I could see him being like, "No, natural childbirth is awesome!" even though I don't know then what the excuse is...

Re: Inequality

I have no data to back it up, nothing but my own fatigue-fueled morning crankiness, but I feel like in modern America if you chose to work 0 hours a week and be homeless you would still have a better life than a 13th century peasant. More comfortable clothing (and probably more changes of it), more ...

Real talk, who the fuck doesn't qualify for some kind of social services somehow?

My thoughts on Trump are, as always, something I should not even hint at lest I end up under surveillance from government agents. Fuck, I hate him so much.

Re: Inequality

Weird, I thought the saintly socialist union agitators of the early twentieth century were responsible for the forty-hour work week. Doesn't that prove it's good? This. You have to wonder what history the guy read to come to the conclusion that a work-week of 40 hours/week was 'unnatural'. For most...
