Re: It's not the size of the screen...

True Detective Season 3 is just boring. There are three timelines going at once which don't seem to feed into each other in any satisfying way. There's the initial crime, which apparently ends with a conviction. There's 10 years later, which is the conviction getting overturned AND one of the missin...

Re: If We Build It, They'll Probably Still Come

There was an ICE raid in Minneapolis where they found the guy in his car and when he refused to come out they broke the window and dragged him out. Much discussed on local friends' Facebook posts. Of course every comment thread has some dinglefucker defending ICE because those people shouldn't have ...

Probably stupid question: does "net worth" mean assets less debts? E.g. if I have $1,000 in the bank and $50,000 in student loan debt, my net worth is negative?

I'm very much enjoying Blown Away on Netflix. It's a glassblowing competition show and it's lovely.

Although I do laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME they say each artist has their own personal glory hole.

Re: Pick Your Poisson

I went down a YouTube rabbit hole last night watching how-to videos of women sewing hair bundles into lace-front wigs. 1. There are a great many songs in the genre of music called "annoying instrumental crap that plays during the sped-up section of a how-to video" 2. If you enjoy watching people hon...

Re: Ladyfashun

I wonder -- hypothetically -- how well it might work if you were to buy a natural-hair brunette wig and then bleach/dye it blonde yourself? I actually know the answer to that hypothetical entirely by chance (somehow it came up in an unrelated discussion recently)! Almost all human hair used in beau...

Re: Ladyfashun

I've recently been window-shopping* for a blonde wig. Wigs that are all one uniform color are available but surprisingly uncommon. Much more popular are wigs with darker roots, in what I assume is an attempt to look more realistic (makes sense) and ride the ombre trend (would make sense if that tren...

Why is the gay version of Uncle Tom called a "Mary Pete"? I need to know the thought process behind this phrase, and why they settled on that instead of many superior options.

Re: Towing the Lion

I desperately miss being blonde, but it destroyed my hair so badly last time (never mind costing $$$$$ that we don't have in order to maintain it) that I've been thinking about getting a blonde wig to try to sooth my troubled tonsorial soul. Anyway, I joined a wig group on Facebook and it is surpris...

One last Vulture quote I loved, and then I promise not to say anything more about TDS2 for a while. (I make no promises about Season 3.) Pizzolatto’s season-two characters didn’t feel like characters so much as badass losers whose backstories kept piling misfortune upon tragedy like Jenga blocks. Pa...

From Vulture's "5 Possible Endings to Redeem True Detective [Season 2]" maybe a scene of Ray many years from now, happily — peacefully — eating hot dogs with a now-hunky, all-grown-up redhead, gazing at the younger man and thinking, Lo, truly, he is my son, or something? Gena and her second husband ...

And honestly, that's the reason I'd have no interest in going back to the past (my imminent death from diabetes aside).
