Re: It's not the size of the screen...

After hanging in there for five episodes, I am here to report that Season 2 of Jack Ryan is very not good.

Re: Money for Nothing: the Universal Basic Income

I confess I don't know anything about "the dole" besides hearing references to it in some of the British novels I've read. From my extremely ignorant perspective, it sounds a little like UBI -- kind of like money for nothing, but not very much, just enough to get by? Or am I way off base? (yes, I co...

Re: Twitter!

I'm still curious about the millionaire thing, because the list of rich writers basically begins and ends with "people who are already celebrities" and "people who've had a lot of big movies made from their books". Sarah Dessen recently sold rights for three of her books to Netflix. I don't know if...

I wish people would stop pretending that having a million dollars worth of assets makes one rich. Not even close.
Damn, though, I'd like to be that class of poor!

Re: Twitter!

Ugh, why is Twitter recommending #ImpeachingHearings as a trending hashtag for me? That sounds so stupid. Why can't you say #ImpeachmentHearings? I suppose if you write it all lowercase it does parse too easily to "impeach men the a-rings" but come on.

Re: cars and how they get that way

I was in a budget planning meeting today and the campus planner went off on a brief tangent about how do you handle needing way more parking on your campus now, but knowing self-driving cars are coming down the pike (except you don't know exactly when)? It was a really interesting thing to ponder! (...

Even if I did, I wouldn't want to talk to it. I'd want an app and a URL. Team Warren! Any fears I have about smart devices aside, I could never use an Alexa or Google Home because I refuse to have to verbally ask for whatever I want. It's bad enough that you have to do that on phone calls instead o...

I would support the Trump clan not going to jail for crimes, but their punishment being for them to only be able to reside in cities where he received >60% of the vote. Given how much he apparently avoids having lunch with his supporters, that would be a punishment indeed! https://twitter.com/JuddL...

I wanna see Uzo Aduba as Catwoman in a Batman '66 reboot. Not slinky, but she could totally rock the I-am-selling-the-camp-of-this-by-being-super-serious-about-my-acting aspect. Fuck, she'd be amazing.

Seriously, I've never heard a group of guys make such a hassle out of taking a piss. But a dude in an office j...

I can't even figure out what he's getting at with this math, but once again, someone thinks a billionaire's wealth is equivalent to a billion dollars sitting in their checking account and not at all tied up in the assets that are earning them their income.
