Re: A Game of ... THEY KILLED WHO?!?!? (hbo spoilers)

Interesting test of what show claims to be vs what it actually is - thematically speaking. It claims to be a thing about breaking the wheel vs taking it all and damn the costs. I stopped watching because I came to believe what it actually is is a complex tapestry to set up nut punchy meat grinder e...

Re: A Game of ... THEY KILLED WHO?!?!? (hbo spoilers)

As I mentioned on Wixenstyx's Facebook, I've never watched the show because I wanted to hold off and finish the book series first. Joke's on me. At the rate Grr Martin's going, I doubt even your kids will be able to read the books first. MAYBE some future grandkids, if Grr lives long enough. Assumi...

Re: Worthwhile YouTubez Finds

These are bit old but I thought they were interesting. It's a language and accent expert critiquing actors accents. Some are obvious. Kevin Costner and Keanu Reeves are awful. Daniel Day-Lewis and Idris Elba are amazing. Mrs. JasonL would probably find these very interesting. https://www.youtube.com...

Re: Horrible, Offensive Geekery

It's still amazing to me that the oral history basically says Alex Guinness was phoning it in. It always amazes me when I watch top-tier professionals phone things in. It makes it so much more obvious just how _good_ they are. Well, there's phoning it in and there's half-assing it. British actors, ...

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

There is a story members of the right believe that goes like - Clinton and her campaign coordinated with the sitting president to create the Steele report, pitch it do the feds and ram it through FISA review to secure monitoring rights in as they'd put it clear violation of all normal rules of evid...

Re: A thread for mocking politicians

This is now completely crossing over between this thread and the EC one, but I for one don't really give a shit about democracy per se. I care about rights and freedoms. Democracy is kind of a secondary goal, and it tends to be better at protecting rights and freedoms than other forms of government...

Athens, Roman Republic, the various Italian republics, the UK, and of course the US to name some. Slavery, segregation, transportation, ghettoization, or other forms of oppression, you have places with democratic institutions making others second class citizens just like other forms of government. ...

Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

An online friend of mine* has a page called B-movie BFFs to chronicle, unsurprisingly, her adventures watching terrible movies with her friends. Sometimes she opens them up to the internet with Rabbit watch parties. The other night was the 1987 G.I. Joe movie. The whole animated G.I. Joe thing was ...

Re: Electoral College: Yea or Nay?

I don't think there would be much difference in result between a PV vs. an EC. You can't use past elections as any guide since the contests were for EC and not single votes. So looking at past vote totals isn't going to necessarily be indicative of anything. There might be a brief shake up the firs...

Re: What's Your Favorite TV Show?

Favorite is funny word. The best show I've seen is The Wire . Yes I realize what a boring choice that is but I'd be lying if I didn't pick it. However, I don't know if you would call that my favorite. That implies I come back to it again and again. I love The Wire but that's a hard show to re-watch ...
