Re: No touching! - sexual impropriety thread

I'm so glad this (grits teeth) person got to expand her shit Twitter thread into a WaPo column: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/posteverything/wp/2017/11/17/im-a-feminist-i-study-rape-culture-and-i-dont-want-al-franken-to-resign/ In other words, if we set this precedent in the interest of demons...

Re: Random news finds

The second-in-command of the Jacksonville, FL sheriff's office appears to be unfamiliar with the concept of "warnings". Ivey, the sheriff’s office’s second in command, defended the merits of writing tickets to help fight pedestrian fatalities. He said that unless and until the city spends the money...

Technically not Ds, but: In my nine months as a member of the new Boston DSA, I was unable to discover the names of more than 5 of the 15 members on the group’s steering committee. When I pointed out that this was a violation of basic democratic norms, several people told me that the names were miss...

@Nicole: I guess I don't know. You may be right. What was the form of the bullying? If it wasn't physical abuse or ongoing verbal harassment, I'd say no. By the standards some women seem to use, I've been bullied and harassed at work, and there wasn't much concern, possibly because I'm a middle age...

People on Twitter calling for Franken to resign. Seems excessive based on a single known instance for which he's apologized.
He didn't apologize for the worst parts of the allegations, did he? I.e., for bullying her after she rejected him

What is the argument for using coffee to deliver collagen? I ... I don't understand the point. I suppose if you want smoother coffee but don't want the fat and lactose of cream/half-and-half, and don't want the emulsified cornstarch slurry of 'fat free' 'half-and-half' or 'creamer', maybe collagen ...

Interessant The general behind Zimbabwe’s coup may have sought Chinese approval days before the army launched its takeover of Robert Mugabe’s government, it emerged on Wednesday. Mr Mugabe remained under house arrest, still president of Zimbabwe if in name alone, a prisoner of once slavishly loyal g...

Vox headline on a Matt Yglesias joint: Bill Clinton Should Have Resigned Was Yglesias even out of college when all that went down? How about somebody who was there and pushing the party line finally admitting it? He's only a few years older than me, so extremely not out of college. He would have be...

But that's the stuff that we were supposed to take "seriously, not literally" from the Trump crowd. Trumpkins know they're not getting factory jobs back, they just want to trigger the libs. Bernie bros would have actually expected to pass healthcare reform. Another thing the Trumpkins didn't actuall...

It's not clear to me that the Trumpkin base has any political rather than rhetorical goals, whereas I do think Bernie fans have political goals that, were he president, they would care about pursuing politically. So they don't seem equally lumpen to me either.

Speaking of knitting, if I wanted to make myself a sweater, can you recommend a good easy pattern to start? Sure! The absolute best IMO is "Improv" which is more of a template for a top-down raglan sweater than a pattern per se -- because it's meant to give you a custom fit: https://fringeassociati...
