Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I'm not trying to say that the self is immutable, just that the individual is in permanent conflict with society, and I side with the individual because I will only ever experience my own consciousness. Most other people want you to be someone else most of the time, and I see the idea of "connection...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

You know, you want people to laugh at your jokes, because that means you are actually funny. And you want people to listen when you speak, because that means you have something to say. I mean that's just like...do you see the kinds of things the average person thinks is funny or wants to listen to?...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

There's also things like this: Jordan Peterson: I think it's brilliant. I think you can see that in the way people look at each other. And I mean that literally. When you are talking with someone, or even talking to a group, you watch, you watch the eyes, and the face, of the individual and the indi...

When I was 12 my father took me to church and made me swear an oath to destroy all podcasts, so unless there's a transcript, I abstain.

What is the Venn diagram of people who listen to EconTalk who don't have access to Peterson's podcast/lectures except by YouTube? His audio is on all the usual apps/services.
I didn’t even know he had a podcast, I only ever see people point to YouTube.

The Jordan Peterson EconTalk episode is now out, so he'll be a bit more accessible to the non-YouTube-friendly among us.

Aren’t actual TED talks for normie values? I want to say he’s YouTube talks for normie values but that’s just unboxing videos and kidsploitation.

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

The "old wisdom" being what, "it's cool to rape a chick as long as you marry her when one of the kids you father on her crawls up and sucks the splinter out of her finger and she wakes up?" It was helpfully explicated by one of the Reddit commenters: in Sleeping Beauty, the masculine represents civ...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I mean, the least clear thing is why he isn’t just saying that. I mean look how useful rape was for traditional societies. Why would we think we know something they don’t? Rape is truth and beauty.

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I only half-watched Frozen once, but I thought the 'message' of the movie was about family and sisterhood and junk, considering it's about one sister's love saving the other. The trope subversion that, actually, the handsome (foreign) prince is evil is just to move the plot along. I guess you could...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

If we're talking about Frozen, I don't know why we're taking about Citizen Kane and not Transformers 3. Because Peterson said that “art” is not political. Citizen Kane is pretty universally viewed as art, while Transformers is not. Strictly speaking, he said art couldn't be created with a political...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

Guernica was mentioned in the Reddit thread and one of the commenters (not Peterson) affirms that it is not art. I'm not going to go down that rabbit hole, but is the commenter the kind of person who would call it "degenerate art?" Always a possibility, but it seems like more generalized dipshitter...
