I managed to run 13.1 miles this morning in 1:44 (just a tiny bit under 8 minutes per mile). Not bad for being 210 pounds.
Nice!

Re: Video Games!

That's because FIFA is now a 'Live Service', not a game. It's so pernicious that the EU has banned a bunch of microtransaction and gambling/loot box features in the new FIFA series. Sorry to tell you this, man. This has been happening all over the AAA game space. It's almost impossible to just buy ...

I mean, for me the "good dishes" are the ones we have a place setting of 12 for, which means they're hand-me-downs. When I picked out my own dishes that I liked years ago to actually use I wasn't going to spend that kind of money, so they can't be the dishes we use for a lot of people coming over.

The funny thing is our good dishes are the ones I don't like, and if someone breaks another of our everyday dishes I'm going to be pissssssssed.

Bret Weinstein is an involuntary member of the IDW. A liberal professor at a small NE college, but he refused to obey the edicts of the SJWs and was expelled from Left Society.
It’s not involuntary when you’re one of the primary brand-builders

I'm prepared to cede this particular match between Weinstein and Yglesias to Yglesias. Much as I dislike Yglesias, Weinstein isn't an IDWer that I follow or give a shit about, and I do agree that for reasonable definitions of " cultural social construct" math is indeed a cultural construct. My bigg...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

BTW, the most culturally-biased part of physics is arguably the Copenhagen interpretation. I've seen a few interesting articles on how it arose from certain cultural and philosophical trends of the 1920's. It's stuff that we need to take more seriously. At the same time, my inner Bayesian knows tha...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

The misuse and confusion is from all sides. The way people of the left like to use the post modern critique, it very much is like “everything is fake” or “girls and dolls has similar in truth value or coherence to the Pythagorean Theorem”. No expressed idea has content other than its social context...

Re: The Abortion Thread

The Ohio bill is bonkers because it requires women with ectopic pregnancies to surgically reimplant the embryo in the womb. The one problem with this is that it’s not a real medical procedure. I think that’s another bill currently under consideration (in addition to the heartbeat one that passed) a...

So, my news feed tells me that Maine has banned styrofoam containers. I’m curious about an unintended consequence. My wife gets some of her medication delivered monthly in a styrofoam cooler with a couple of frozen gel packs. What is the replacement solution if people in Maine don’t have that optio...

Why would it be good to make zealotry more expensive? Why is this better than a system where if you put all your tokens on one thing, they’re worth 100, but if you split them up they’re worth less because you’re indecisive and unfocused? I can think that it is a good thing to make zealotry more exp...

I also have concerns about a certain nasty strain of antivax parent I've seen, that seems to believe (though never explicitly comes out and says) certain diseases are God's punishment for bad behavior.
