Re: Twitter!

I would have to say "based" doesn't actually mean redpilled, but it often is used in a related way. The more encompassing meaning: "Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do. Being positive. When I was younger, based was a n...

Re: Twitter!

Yeah I mean I don't think anyone has to put it down behind them. You put it down in front of you and the next person puts it down in front of them.

(ETA also I would never get in line behind someone with a full-size cart, or if I did I would expect their groceries to take up the whole belt anyway.)

Re: Twitter!

I'll admit to being about 50:50 on divider use. If I'm behind someone, I'll usually just leave like a foot or so between our items so there's a clear delineation. The only time I think to put one down behind me is if the person has a super-full cart and/or small kids. I also tend to Tetris all my s...

I think I saw a grocery divider in the new Wonder Woman trailer. Man that took me back.
What do you do, just stand there until the person before you is fully checked out?

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

OFFS, I just checked the actual non-Twitter article he wrote on "5 reasons why porn should be outlawed," one of them is "Porn makes you less free: There is nothing freeing about porn. A “free society” is not one that must, or should, feature easily accessed pornography. Porn kills freedom because i...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

How are we not talking about the ongoing anti-porn crusade on here yet? See Matt Walsh’s timeline if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I was hoping it would be over by now but it’s just taking over more of my TL.

The fantasy that you don't have to do anything to be attractive to others. I mean if I looked like Jameela Jamil I would be body positive as fuck.
Yeah I’m talking about all the fat women selling clothes now. It’s a big trend in a lot of my catalogs now and it’s saving me a lot of money.

Re: I just don't get it

There are also some complaints about how people in Peloton ads have nice houses so something something privilege. On the one hand, I'm glad that the social justice brigade is finally noticing that class privilege exists. On the other hand, who the fuck do you think buys $2200 exercise bikes? And a ...

States have been raising the legal driving age? huh
Yeah, raising the age for getting any license but also making licenses for teens restricted. Usually involving a curfew and rules against having other teens as passengers.

Why don't you put that question out on Twitter?
I'm likely not followed by anyone who would be able to answer it and the thread I posted is too stale to ask within it. Though I did consider doing both.

Re: Twitter!

I'm way behind in this thread, but I'll just say that my overall sense with p-zombie type arguments is that they operate by claiming a massively contingent property can be excised while holding all else constant. I don't really think that's a valid mode of reasoning. I'm trying to think of a good a...

nicole, Do you experience joy? Is consciousness a burden to you at such times? I'm trying to wrap my mind around something like "I can't wait to finish having sex so I can remember it fondly and be done with suffering through it". I'm not anhedonic and I don't necessarily want to avoid positive exp...

Re: Twitter!

As far as what you're saying here--there definitely seems to me to be a difference between memories and experiences as they happen, for example, in real life you can have a false memory of something that you didn't experience, even though you think you remember yourself experiencing it. That is not...

It's not different post hoc; it's different during. But the question is how is it different, exactly. This is where my "not getting it" part comes in. If the answer is "but you wouldn't have qualia during the experience", then my response would be that in any observable, testable sense, you do/did ...

It sounds like the OP poll was essentially 'Would you like to be on general anesthesia for 8 hours at a time, but when you woke up, you'd remember everything?" Which admittedly, as a dabbler in commerce, sounds intriguing. Combine it with molly and speed and live out a self-imposed Huxley fever dre...
