She totally meant it, even if you couldn't read it that way! Even if she didn't say anything at all about that topic.

Re: Inequality

It's hard for me to generalize in my field, because my company has been "40 is fine but a few more isn't usually a problem." There have been times where they say no OT, because of project budget. Our company doesn't make many employees strict salary tho. I get paid straight time OT, although I am co...

It's just so much xenophobic bullshit, I think your reaction is exactly what they want. "Make everyone afraid, and then those people won't even want to come here, and we can restore our white peoples' paradise."

I know there are ridiculous bureaucracies, but why is this one so atrocious? Is it the opposite department or something? Do they just figure out how they can make themselves look as bad as possible?

Re: Questions for the Grylliade Non-Hive Mind

Yeah no spark so not running. And my place does set aside some time for classic/project cars. Also apparently 1970s now count as classic. In Virginia right now you can get antique plates for any car built before 1992. Maryland's "Historic" registration is for cars built more than 20 years ago. We'r...

Re: Questions for the Grylliade Non-Hive Mind

Does the vehicle run at all? If it does, and you can take it to different places to get an assessment and estimate, then I'd do that. If it doesn't run, and you do trust the one place to do good work, to me that's more important than the cost (to a certain large degree). Also, if it's a good place, ...

It really doesn't look like a mayfly. No split tail, and mayflies don't seem to keep their back legs extended when lighting.

Re: Our Friends, The House of Saud

Is it just me, or does this seem like a huge overreaction by the Saudis to anyone else? Like "You can't tell me what to do! I bet you're not even my REAL mom!" teen tantrum level overreaction to "Your room is a mess." I'm guessing there's some sort of cultural aspect to it, but I certainly can't spe...

I don't think it's impossible. I just hate the company and don't trust them at all, especially given the exposure to risk they want you to assume. That s why I am loathe to use it.

Isn't West Virginia in that band of Pro-Trump states where they think all of the illegal voting is happening anyway? Why would they want to allow something like this when they're paranoid about all the "wrong" people voting anyway?

Or is that group of states west and south of there, but not in WV?

Hah, like Trump's agreements are ever on paper. They're usually just handshakes, and they seem to work out great for everyone who isn't Trump so far. Ask Kim Jong Un how that "denuclearization" is going.

Re: Home $weet Home

We were actually really surprised at how little the color had changed on our siding. Even for a portion that is in the sun for a good amount of the day, it really hadn't changed color (maybe because our siding is pretty much the yellowish color that every other siding color approaches). The only dif...

Re: Home $weet Home

Yeah, I had good luck with that when I had to get mine replaced also. If you can go to a siding supply company, you're a lot better off than if you just grab whatever's closest at Home Depot. I'm convinced what we got is actually the exact same as what we originally had.

Many have criticized Cantrell [the victim] for how she reacted despite the fact she couldn't see out of her windshield to drive away. What is this criticism? One reason I'm wary of doing a "regular" steampunk costume is that I'm going to be so hugely pregnant by then (hell, I'm hugely pregnant now). Obviously there were plenty of pregnant people in the Victorian era. But it feels weird and stressful to try to dress like a typical character and then be "...

I'll take your word for it as a professional. I think they're all kinds of useless if not outright counterproductive. The thing is, you can't really see the effect. It's one of those "can you prove a negative" things. If it's delaying the onset of significant congestion by 15 minutes on the days wh...

Re: cars and how they get that way

I have no idea why you think it's a horrible idea. It's a safety improvement, it's a throughput improvement, it's a congestion improvement. It improves all those things with hardly any operational downside. There are reports of long waits to get on at particular ramps, but newer operations work hard...

Re: cars and how they get that way

Phoenix uses lots of ramp metering. I'm not sure how much it helps. It's been shown to be at least effective at increasing speeds and decreasing travel time, and reducing the amount of perceived congestion. If the highways are empty, it's not going to have much effect, but it will help delay when t...

Yeah, "steampunk" has zilch to do with 70s-80s punk. Of course, I mostly just think it's tacking on brass-rimmed goggles and clockwork to things that don't have them.
