Very nice. What material is it? We're thinking about redecking ours, and wondering if the composites have come far enough that they don't fall apart.

Developers aren't idiots. If they're converting the things, then they're pretty sure there's a market for them. They see the prices things go for. They know what price they're probably going to get for all of their units. And they'll probably get it.

Different servers should be in the list on the panel on the left. After you've accepted an invite, you'll have a list of them, so you can select between them. Then you pick one of the channels on that server. To talk to friends by DM, it doesn't matter what server you're on, but to see a chat channe...

People in cars always get all pissy whenever someone gets in their way. Cyclists are frequent targets of this. And when they screw something up and get called on it, it just makes them more pissy (cause they know they're wrong, and they look like the dumbasses they are).

I also like (no, not really) how the act of presenting yourself at the border to request asylum is counted as "illegal immigration". There are so many people twisted up in knots trying to justify these atrocities it looks like Hanover, PA.

if you're gonna charge for volume you have to accommodate said volume. all knees matter. True dat, although again I only fly airlines with an economy+ option with more legroom, Southwest excepted on shorter routes, but that has so far only counted for a total of ten or maybe 14 legs of flights in t...

Cause a lot of people do check in bags. I do.

I count the kiosk as a counter, because you are stopping there to do stuff. It's a lot of counters, but that's just good staffing (because it doesn't need people).

The Chik Fil A nearest me is scary efficient during the lunch and saturday family shopping rushes. All of the CfA stores are scary efficient. The ones here have drive thru lines 20 cars deep. And people will still stay in those lines, where anywhere else they'd bail and go somewhere else, because t...

Is there any kind of scare? I thought it was just Jadagul observing that it's not particularly healthy. And it's one of those things if you try to do it, you can tell that you are doing something with your vocal cords. I figure physically, it's a similar case to singers screaming. Maybe it sounds li...

I ate there once or twice before all the bigot stuff became public, and I don't get the loyalty it inspires. I mean, I get it for the culture war stuff, but I don't get why people go nuts for the chicken. It's good, but it's not like biting into it is like getting a molly-fueled double-blow. This. ...

Re: I just don't get it

Well, vocal fry isn't an incredibly healthy way to talk. Over the long run it can damage your voice, which is why classical singers try not to use it despite it getting you deeper into your low register. What kind of damage are we talking about? Because checking online, I'm seeing everything from "...

I see some people do this as “no - uh”. https://www.google.com/amp/observer.com/2015/03/girl-talk-when-it-comes-to-language-women-are-in-charge/amp/ “One example is something utterly unnoticed yet spreading like kudzu: young women hanging an “uh” at the end of words and sentences. “How are you-uh!!...

Re: I just don't get it

I've found vocal fry a lot easier to distinguish now that our office has some young women engineers in our department. There's definitely a difference in the way they speak to different people and in meetings. Sometimes I wonder if I should point it out to them, as well as their uptalking, but then ...

I was under the impression that no modern coolants (for modern cars) required mixing anymore.
That's possible, but it's not universal, especially if you pick it up at the gas station or supermarket or something. Apparently they try to use "Coolant" for diluted and "antifreeze" for concentrated.

Make sure he's mixing the coolant with water. Check your vehicle's particular mix, but it's usually 50-50 water and coolant.

It probably is straightforward, but I'm really not interested in cutting pipe, lifting heavy things out of a hole, getting pipe put back to gether, or futzing with it in general. Because it's straightforward, it's a fairly small cost window to have it replaced. I'm more likely to deal with electrici...

Nicely frustrating experience with an electrician today, trying to diagnose why a breaker has tripped two times in the past week without us seemingly doing anything. The current suspect is the sump pump, since it was on the circuit that tripped, it's been rainy, and it's the only thing that would ha...

Our Breville oven timer starts counting down as soon as it's preheated, and then turns off when it gets to zero. That might be something that could help you, at least you wouldn't come back to charcoal briquette pizza. As a plus, the Breville is an excellent kitchen appliance. We use it as our main ...

It doesn't signify much of anything. That's a good amount of thermal mass that you just allowed it to use to dump heat into, so it should react quickly. Low coolant is likely the immediate issue, but it's probably indicative of some other problem. The things that lunch said, and I'd add the possibil...

A recurring weakness in the Golden Age of Television is the network giving a really tight limited run show a larger episode order in its sophmore season, and the showrunners not quite knowing what to do with all that extra room. Yeah, I know you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but sometimes I...

I think when Heinlein talked about this idea in Number of the Beast (yeah I've read it a few times), there was a caveat about the current owner, in order to fend off a 'hostile' buyout at his assessed price, could raise the assessment value at the time someone tried to buy it, but was then on the ho...
