Re: Petty annoyances

So, I got off my ass and sharpened all the kitchen knives* with my Work Sharp Ken Onion edition that I got awhile back. Immediately thereafter I cut myself on the back of my hand with one of my newly sharpened knives.

*I did not sharpen the serrated blades or the kitchen shears

Re: Food

Experiments to date with the Instant Pot: Pork Chili Verde - kinda bland as done by the recipe. Added a can of Rotel and some adobo and much better Butter Chicken - Pretty good. Came a little too spicy for the rest of the household. Red Beans - I used my standard recipe, so it came out fine. I need ...

.2. A tulpa is actually a thing, not just an asshole's user name. Yup. For the longest time, I confused tulpas and tupilaqs . Didn't Seattle pass a $15 minimum wage and aren't the results coming back that yes, Virginia, it did decrease employment? I thought I saw that, but I'm too lazy to google right now.

Re: Market Failure!

So, I'm looking for a new bag. I want one almost exactly like this Saddleback. I don't want any additional pockets or bullshit inside the main pockets. No pen loops, no phone pocket, nothing. Two compartments in the main bag, two outside pockets. So this bag is perfect, but $759 is a bit much. I can...

Re: What are you drinking?

Warren, as I have copious bourbon and some of the Salerno left, I'll give that a try once I pick up some ginger beer.

Tonight I'm drinking a Smoked Maple Old Fashioned from here. Pretty damn tasty. I used Peychaud's Bitters and 1/8 teaspoon of sugar. I also skipped the garnish since I have none.

Heating element, PID controller, optical relay, thermocouple, small fountain pump. Use with any pot. Cost me less than 100 bucks when I built it. What is your source of cheap PID controllers? China via Ebay. Search 'pid temperature controller' on Ebay and a shit-ton of them come up. They were runni...

I have a non-specific lust for wireless-networked smart light bulbs. I just have to find a setup that's hackable in the "custom things I could do" sense, but not in the "bored teenager in my Wi-Fi range gives me the gift of strobe lighting/random Russian turns it into a botnet" sense. I got one for...

Christmas Gadgetry! So, I got an Anova sous vide to replace my home brew sous vide kit. My kit offended in-house counsel's delicate sensibilities, because it looks like a sous vide prototype made by an engineer who was not at all concerned with aesthetics. The reasons why should be obvious... I also...

I'm surprised one needs a license for lab glassware, but I guess the logic is that you need it for chemistry work, which generally requires permits.
It's considered to be possible drug paraphernalia, so you have to get a permit so they can come and do unannounced inspections. Yay Texas.
