Re: Petty annoyances

The school won’t let the kids walk to the cars because safety. But they will, if you consent, let your kid walk or ride his bike home... because safety? HISD, as near as I can tell, does not offer bus service for the most part. So between the cluelessness of the school staff and the entitled parents...

Christ, but these Montessori hippies can’t run a school pick-up line worth a rat’s ass. The ghetto school across the way where the tr0gling was last year was bastly more organized than these clowns.

Re: Petty annoyances

Everybody in my house but me (so far, knock on wood) has a lifelong incurable condition that requires medication. Unfortunately, it's medication with a "high potential for abuse". So that means I can't get anything more than 30 days worth at a time. So once a month, somebody has to schlep on over to...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

We have a City Council member who is finally term limited out after a scrolling years in office. The world is gunning for this seat. One candidate is using a green skyline for her logo and is named Mary Jane Smith. She seems tailor-made to be the 420 candidate, but no, bog standard stealth republica...

Re: Dancing With the Dems

This is horribly cynical of me (big surprise) but some of these goobers know, in their heart of hearts, they aren’t gonna be the nom. They also know they aren’t getting the VP slot, a cabinet position, or any other of the usual rewards from the party. This suggests they are in it for personal enrich...

So we went browsing at the 99 Ranch Market yesterday. We picked up a bunch of cup o’ noodles things just for fun. One was mostly labeled in chinese and we missed the ‘Szechuan’ on it. Boy, them people ain’t playing when they doing it for the home team and not toning it down for the white boys.

Fortnights and furlongs is the only sane alternative.
I have given people speeds in furlongs per fortnight before. If I ask you what units you want your answer in, don’t tell me to pick. I have MathCad and a weird sense of humor.

The last name "Buttigieg" is of Maltese origin, and comes from the Arabic "Abu d-dajāj", meaning "chicken owner".
It's better than "chicken chaser."
Ah, Jasper, please, when we're around children we prefer to call him the Chickenlover.

So, I need (for stupid reasons I'm not getting into) to install linux on an old box. I need a graphical interface, a VPN and a web browser. What's my best bet for a distro in terms of least fuss/muss? When setup, it will be used by the borderline technically illiterate.

At any rate math is not "culturally constructed" and even if nothing is "timeless, universal & true" that doesn't mean everything is equally true. There's only few things I'm going to cling to bitterly when it comes to knowable facts about the universe, but the three laws of thermodynamics and most...

John Bolton wants a fucking war with Iran before the moustache recalls him to the mothership. I don’t know what it is, but Bolton is convinced it can be solved by attacking Iran.

My wife gets some of her medication delivered monthly in a styrofoam cooler with a couple of frozen gel packs. What is the replacement solution if people in Maine don’t have that option...

Sears is amusingly bad at this. If I go look at something on their website logged in, they will come back and email me when it's on sale, say, 2 months later.

There was a promotion at the pet (food) store where they were giving away free marrow bones, and because they remember Dubs from adopting Biggie, they gave him one for each of the dogs. Jussie Smollett, according to my new feed, wrote his buddies a check for the attack. You are hilariously bad at committing crimes if you are paying people by check. Did he ask for a receipt, too, do you think?

Vandals try to light a statue of General Lee on fire . Though, unless they are anti-D-Day or the 101st Airborne, it's probably because they were morons. The statue was of General William Lee. Also, further evidence they are idiots is that they tried to set a marble statue on fire. If you heat a mar...
