Dude, is it just me, or does anyone else think it's strange that apparent sleazeball and Enemy of my Enemy, Michael Avenatti, appears to have several legal issues of his own so suddenly after the midterms?
I think strange would have been just prior to the midterms.

Getting back to the meat (har, har) of this tangent, tonkotsu is a sublime dish. I've only had it prepared professionally once but it was 1000 times better than anything I could do in my kitchen.

William Goldman , 87, R.I.P. Goldman was a celebrity screenwriter, one of the earliest in an age when the phrase was still a Hollywood oxymoron; but aside from the work for which he will be best remembered, he was also a dominant force behind the scenes as an uncredited script doctor in, for exampl...

Odysseying home today. NYC to Chicago via Miami. But I just boarded!
I'm confused. Chicago in November vs Miami in November. You really wanted to take that second leg?

Winning is a better credential than a loss, but it doesn't say much more about how good you are as a candidate. Winning by half a point and losing by half a point carry basically the same information about your quality as a candidate from a statistical point of view. (I'd say the same thing about G...

I hate November. In the last week we've gone from low single digits to freezing rain to 50F with all snow melted and now settling back down to a more seasonable mid 20s range. Once we freeze solid life gets so much easier.

Apparently just post Kristallnacht there was a plan proposed by the Secretary of the Interior to settle Jewish refugees into Alaska as it was a territory and would therefore bypass the normal immigration quotas. This was shot down by Jewish leaders as "giving a wrong impression", Alaskan politicians...

You should not visit casa de Pham right now. I'm not in charge of anything right now so it looks hideous. Depends on the room. My living room is long & narrow, so the only place for the TV is over the fireplace. We're sitting far enough away that the height of it really isn't an issue. In those sit...

Recall how Obama used to actually answer questions?

I will take AAAAAALLLLLLL your chicken breast. I like it way better than any other parts. Ellie can't have it all because I want some too. I do not care for dark meat. And sous vide cooking of chicken breasts at about 148 degrees for 2 hours keeps it from being dry and overcooked. I like a well coo...

I know I've mentioned this somewhere before but I make a point of voting just to keep the Libertarian spot on the ballot. We have some rule here where the party has to have either 3% of the registered voter base or obtain 3% in the last general state election. Since this is a gubernatorial election ...

I am excited for Tuesday. I can't wait for all the ads to stop and the signs to come down. At an Asian supermarket the other day, while walking past the meat section, I saw several packages of what I first thought were oddly colored sausages, until I noticed the sign reading "PORK UTERI." ( shudder ) I know this is irrational of me -- from a non-carnivorous perspective, why should eating...

High humidity manages to make all unpleasant temperatures worse: hot weather feels hotter and cold weather feels colder. Yesterday was in the mid-50s, which in dry New England autumn would be pleasantly brisk, but the relative humidity was somewhere in the 90s and the chill went right through to th...

Winter took its sweet time getting here, but here it is. Last week we were in the mid 50s for highs and skirting the freezing mark for lows. Monday dumped 2-8" of snow on us. This morning it's a clear and brisk 8F.

I hope Glenfarclas continues to fly under the radar. It's superior to Glenfiddich and Macallan at 2/3s the price. I tried it last night. I'd say it's not my thing. It might have suffered by comparison, though, since my first pour was Ardbeg 10. Yeah, you do an Islay before a Speyside and the latter...

Yes if you know just a bit and ask just a few questions, you get treated really well. Notably, you aren’t “wooo! I'm sure that getting everyone talking about Elizabeth Warren's Native American ancestry, and the possible political significance thereof, will work out great for Democrats this November. What better thing to discuss before the midterm elections? Might as well because they sure as hell aren't going...
