Re: We can win the war in Vietnam!

I just realized that it's been 18 years since the invasion of Afghanistan. This means that for the fresh, bright-eyed recruits we've always been at war with Eastasia.

I have my doubts that the doors of Janus will ever close.

ETA: Oh, I get it now: the spice ball was for step two, but for step one I still had a pitcher with several inches of shit-sludge on the bottom. But I would still, if possible, like to get some sort of cold-brew setup similar to a hot-drip coffee maker -- at least in the sense that the coffee groun...

There is actually a sunken submarine just off Coney Island, in waters so shallow the conning tower sticks up above the surface. It was built by one man in 1967, and he planned to salvage from the Andrea Doria with it, but it sank when being first placed in the water. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q...

First snowfall of the season, we got 8" at the homestead Saturday. Anchorage set both a (daily) record high temp of 45F followed by a record snowfall of 8.4". As with last year, this year's winter has been late in arriving. By now we usually have had a couple of weeks below freezing and at least a c...

Last night was the first rainfall of any sort in over six weeks for us. Knocked some of the wildfire smoke out of the air and dropped overnight temps into the mid 50s. Hopefully a return to a more normal summer is in order now.

To quote Die Antwoord, Baby's on Fire. All time record high in Anchorage of 90F, nary a drop of rain in 6 weeks, and ~130 active forest fires. You may recall that this is the land of "degree heating days" not "cooling days". As such few businesses and almost no residences have air conditioning of th...

On a related note, if you are a big international company, you should probably know better than to have two products whose names differ only by one letter, an R or an L. Yes, it's a stereotype, but it's also true.

I like the brut stuff. It's IPA without all of that grainy sweetness. Yeah, it's out of balance and no I won't drink them all the time but when I want a bitter punch in the face it fits the bill.

Good call. It might be easier to start by eliminating the inessential movies: Thor, Black Panther, GotG 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp. It's also not clear that any of the Iron Man movies are strictly necessary. So that's got it down to 13-16. All of your excluded movies ar...

MODUS HOPERANDI - IPA by Ska Brewing (CO) At 6.8% ABV it's a wee mite strong for me. Damned tasty though. Good bitter bite without being overpowering (I'm looking at you Dogfish Head). But it's the finish that makes it. A bright piney dry-hop aftertaste that lingers. The can sports the phrase "Lip ...

Whelp, I guess good thing I hadn't pulled the winter tires off yet. Just got a 2" dump of heavy wet, in my wife's words, "snain". It'll probably mostly melt off today but if not I'm hoping it doesn't freeze overnight. I have appointments to pull the studded tires Thursday and Friday.
