Re: I just don't get it

Evidentiary standards are higher for people who are not blatantly bad-faith actors who have rejected the values civilization, like someone who shoots at the cops when they come with a warrant. If you won't come peacefully to court, you can't argue that you never got the benefit of a lawyer.

Re: Marriage is Totally Gay

As long as you aren't actively threatening people, human life has value. Thus emergency staff should always preserve life as a base value. That (emergency survival) is separate from transacting economically IMO. If a coffee house can rightfully not serve a group of skin heads who want to have a Nazi...

Re: I just don't get it

I think it's a good thing that they helicoptered in some real American heroes so there were fewer civilians at risk, rather than droning a while household. If the gummint only conducted raids like this, they would have less pushback from me. Matter of fact, if I was in a position where I had a priva...

Jason, what goes into that preference? I found the social media aspect of Venmo kind of off-putting, and the UI wasn't great IMO.

I've seen some brilliant, giganticly bright, one-off meteors that made the news, and a few that should have. Nothing like a whole shower of them though.

Re: Orange is the new President

What's the difference between Trump and members of his administration? Really, this is just another Freedom of Association argument that we don't need to have in this particular thread, and I apologize for baiting if that's how it came across. But for instance someone in this thread said (paraphrasi...

Re: Russia "Russia", "Russian", and "a Russian" are different things. I think a lot of the hysteria has to do with not separating things done by people who might speak Russian, or live in Eastern Europe, with Official Acts Of Russia. It's like thinking that 4chan is a organ of the US Intelligence Co...

Refusing to serve someone you despise is one of the joys of being the owner of a business. If I owned my own business, I would equally like to refuse business to Richard Spencer and the guy who bullied me when I was growing up. I doubt that you would extend the joy of refusal (I bet 'joy of refusal...

Re: Petty annoyances

Two sets of doors are only as modern as climate control, so there's no fancy word for it. I would say vestibule because that's where you would don or doff your outer layers, in New England we call it a mud room. The foyer sits inside the front door and is a space where you can receive people without...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I think that improving the aesthetics of our surroundings is a pretty obvious purpose that many people feel. Earning praise, even from strangers, is a fairly universal human terminal value as well. If you feel insecure, moving towards security can be a fairly animal-level motivation.

I believe that's called the Kennedy Roll, and I use it all the time to dress down a dress shirt. I have a couple Calvin Klein checked shirts with sleeve tabs like that, I like them. It reminds me of tying back my sleeves before archery or a kenjutsu form.
