TWTR?

I am so addicted to Twitter that I am no longer capable of expressing thoughts requiring more than 140 characters.

Twitter is a great tool for hyping my books/blog/music/porn empire.

Twitter is a great tool for keeping legions of people I don't know in the loop about what I had for breakfast.

I don't see what the big deal is, Twitter is just a blog for people with short attention spans. Get offa my lawn you kids!

Re: TWTR?

Twitter Short Attention Span Theater.

Not necessarily evil, might even have some positives. Still ...

Re: TWTR?

Hey, it was high comedy watching the Republican party convince themselves that Twitter was going to lead to a dramatic resurgence last year. That's not nothing.

Re: TWTR?

From the little I know of twitter (1. It is some sort of instant messaging system. 2. It is limited to 140 characters.) I honestly cannot conceive of a use for it. Unless you are a freak who has to know what other people are doing every second of every day.

Hey! I actually got a chance to use the 'get off my lawn' line. Its like I grew up a little bit today.

I follow what a few friends are up to and express random thoughts, there.

This is pretty funny, though:

Re: TWTR?

I basically never tweet and follow only a handful of people (mostly writers). But I'm a nut for Twitterfiction. *cough shameless self-promotion cough cough*

Fuck twitter. Who's excited for Windows 98 to come out?

Re: TWTR?

whoa, don't get carried away with your crazy Windows 98 stuff. I'm still loading software on my TRS-80 with a cassette player.

Re: TWTR?

Thanks, Innominate One. I figured you freaks were congregating somewhere besides the H&R comment threads. Today's fundraising post alerted me to your whereabouts.

You can put away the gun. This is a concealed carry site.

If your spelling skills and attention to detail are any indication, you'll probably make lieutenant in no time.

Re: TWTR?

My wife claims it has uses at conferences, sort of a passive way to keep track of people for meet-ups and bulk messaging. All I use my account for is #zombiehaiku.

Where John Stewart got his start... I remember that show.

I see NutraSweet is over here just before me. Why are you stalking me, dude? You used Twitter to follow me, didn't you!

Re: TWTR?

So the Twitter feed #ItailianBeef really is you?

Re: TWTR?

I wanted #HotItalianSausage but that was already taken by Scott Baio, the bastard. Yeah, I'll put Charles in charge...of cleaning out Steve Smith's cage at the zoo.

Re: TWTR?

You guys aren't even talking about Twitter right. It's @HotItalianBeef--@ not #. # is a hashtag, it's for, like, convos between tweeps and stuff.

Exactly. We're discussing how we track our idiotic conversations.

By the way guys, there's a proprietary quote tag:

OPENBRACKET quote=NAME OF PERSON CLOSEBRACKET quoted text OPENBRACKET /quote CLOSEBRACKET

Just FYI...

Wow, I thought I was the only one that remembered those. I wasn't allowed to play on the TRS-80. Instead, I had to play "Pyramid" on my CoCo. Still had the cassette player though. But man was I living large when I got the Floppy for that CoCo. We had to use a pallet jack to get it in the house but it was still sweet.

And, so help me, I just tweeted my web-designer/developer impressions about the online subscriptions forms for Wired, Make, and Reason as I was actually remembering to subscribe and thus save myself some money over the next few years.

I've been pondering a subscription to Make, since I can't find it at any local newsstands. Is it worth reading?

Re: TWTR?

I enjoy it, Hugh, though I'm terribly un-handy. There's occasional bits of dumb politics, but I find those easy to ignore.

As it happens, their subscription-ordering page was the best one I used that day.

Re: TWTR?

I use Twitter mostly to blurt when a crazy/stupid thought pops into my head, and there isn't a place for it on Grylliade, nor is it worth creating a thread for. However, lately I haven't had much time to do even that, and my Twitter thread has not been entertaining for at least several weeks.

However, I am blessed that the folks in my Twit-posse tend to be either writers or would-be writers or at leat tend to be much more literate and witty that the average tweeter, IMO.

Anyway, I would recommend that any of you follow these entities for nearly-guaranteed entertainment:

http://twitter.com/shitmydadsays (Last I heard, this guy actually got a deal for a TV series based on his tweets.)

http://twitter.com/fakeapstylebook (For amazing advice on writing, grammar and usage.)

I've thought about creating a thread for one-offs called "one-offs", but wasn't sure if there was a need or how it would be received.

I like the idea. It would be one whose central, rather than ancillary purpose would be to drift.

Re: TWTR?

You can obviously put me on the list of "jerk-offs in favor of one-offs."
