Some of you may have noticed a little duel between Ellie and I over the naming of the thirteenth (and possibly final) "Co***rker" thread.

I made it "Cow-Orker".

Ellie, using her web-goddess powers, changed it to Co-Worker.

I changed it back.

Ellie changed it again.

I changed it back once more, but I've offered a peace deal: The matter goes to a vote. I have even given Ellie the tie.

So cast your votes. Poll closes on Easter.

Cow-orker would be one who orks cows. As all LOTR geeks and nerds know, ork is a noun not a verb. Cow-orkers grammatically FAILS!

Edit - Do I seem foolish enough to cross someone who wields the mystical Eye of Amoderator?

I never understood these threads to begin with. What the hell? If I wanted to talk about my job I'd be doing it instead of posting on Grylliade.

Mind you, if "to ork" can be a verb like "to man", meaning "to supply with personnel", it could refer to ork cowpokes...

J sub D - you gotta know your audience.

Ellie:

Please...Cow-orker?

The resident Jew needs to know when Easter is this year before making a vote.

Easter Sunday falls on April 12, 2009. For a complete explanation about the calculations used to determine the date of Easter*, the U.S. Naval Observatory has a good (likely more than you want to know) write up.

Vote co-worker! It's for the children!

* Ecclesiastical full moon? Who knew?

Why the fuck isn't Easter during passover? I mean, at least they could make the date of the holiday consistent with the myth it's based on.

Because it isn't based on that myth. The "Man come out of ground (and if he sees his shadow...)" myth was just tacked onto the Pagan Feast of the Vernal Equinox.

Because the Christians have more complicated oxymorons.

But when you read the big book of myth it's all "And the man was nailed to the wood during passover, and oh shit, we better get him into the cave before sabbath!"

Was Jesus a first born? I thought Mary had other kids before him. What a slut.

The same reason they put his birthday in December despite the fact that shepherds only watch their flocks by night when the lambs are about to be born, meaning the actual birth would have happened in September or possibly March; there was a pagan holiday that needed to be co-opted, and the way to do that is to station Jesus right nearby, so that everyone can party and have fun and eventually forget that "hey, this holiday used to have a lot more orgies."

Wait what? Mary was a virgin when the Christ Child was born. The little savior's peter was the first to enter the holy mother's pussy.

Re: Cow-Orker or Co-worker. Which do Gryiliaders prefer?

Well IF Jesus was a first-born, and IF Jesus was Jewish, than he couldn't have been killed on Passover. That's the whole point of the Passover story.

Re: Cow-Orker or Co-worker. Which do Gryiliaders prefer?

I'm still confused.

I assume Timothy meant that Easter should be celebrated on Passover because it specifically says in the Bible that Jesus came into the city after his 40 days in the desert to celebrate Passover, and that Pilate offered to free Jesus as part of a Passover tradition. (And I think something else with them wanting to bury the body, but I forget that part, because I am Catholic and do not have to read the Bible.)

Re: Cow-Orker or Co-worker. Which do Gryiliaders prefer?

(Ellie: I'm mostly being faceticious. Since on Passover (the original passover) the first born Jews were saved I was making the leap, that Jesus, as the first born, should have been saved by Jew Magic, rather than hunted down and killed during Passover.)

So I came to this thread and I'm reading a lot about Passover here and suddenly I'm hungry for tacos. I don't understand the causality of that, but there you go.

Re: Cow-Orker or Co-worker. Which do Gryiliaders prefer?

Dammit, now I want a taco really badly.

Beef stroganoff would make an excellent taco.

That's why they call him "the Passover Lamb, sacrificed to take away the sin of the world." He died to protect everyone else from dying.

He was also great to have at parties if you were short on wine or one of your guests needed resurrecting.

It's only sacrilege if you stated the order was reversed.

You are correct.

The vote is 18 for Cow-Orker, 10 for Co-Worker.

I claim victory.

Meh. It's not like I agreed to be bound by the results of the election. Eventually, there will be some concordance on when to split into new threads. When that day comes, co-worker will come with it.

You're one of those guys driving around in a Volkswagen Jetta with a faded old "COW-ORKER IS NOT MY PRESIDENT" bumpersticker on it, aren't you?
