Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
The President of Kazakhstan has proposed a single world currency. Considering the way other World Organizations are run, what would be an appropriate name for the currency unit?
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
Modesty forbids I actually suggest the Ridgely.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
Ducats
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
I said it before: the barack, dammit. It is our only hope!
Or the Kaz... has a nice ring to it.
OR "los huguitos"
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
I like the name Starbuck. I think it might already be trademarked though.
Weltgeld has a nice ring to it.
Also signatures are noticeably absent. - Smacky
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
The paw. They would be shaped like paws. Five toes make a paw. Four paws make a kitten. Ten kittens make a kindle. Ten kindles make a happy.
Seriously, somebody needs to put me in charge of something already. I'm awesome.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
Considering the way other World Organizations are run? The Buckup.
ps. The president of Kazakhstan is a oligarchical a-hole.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
For a site populated by alleged libertarians I'm surprised and dismayed nobody has suggested the obvious. I now present the prelim design of the New World OrderTM global currency, coming to a federal reserve branch near you,
The FIAT.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
You are awesome Ellie. If it pleases and sparkles I nominate Ellie for Rainbow Chair. Does that sparkle with all the girls?
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
I looked at the headline of the article that Aresen linked to -- "Nobel-prize winner backs world currency" -- and I thought, "What a great idea! A currency backed by Nobel-prize winners!"
(I assume all the Nobel-prize winners would be kept in a vault somewhere. Maybe Geneva.)
Really, it's brilliant. Nobel-prize winners are intrinsically very valuable, aren't they? Aren't they even more rare than gold?
The currency would be called "the Nobellar," of course.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
As an alternative, I'm thinking we could also have a world currency called the Spanking.
Imagine it: Panhandlers would come up to you and ask for a Spanking.
Teenage kids would be discouraged from mooching if they had to ask their parents for a few Spankings every time they went out.
And of course, the jocularity opportunities WRT cute cashiers, waitresses, bartenders, etc. would never end! And it would never get old. Never.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
This is a good idea, Warren. What's more, I think the position could come with a stipend. Ellie should get 100 Spankings per day.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
The quatloo.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
I admit, I had to vote for the dollar given the long history of the word. The Reichsthaler became the thaler, which became the dollar. In it's overlap with the reale, it's practically been a world currency already.
But, I could just as easily gor for the "Funny" as in funny money.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
What Warren suggested . . . or we could get another blast from the past with the florin.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
I like good old names like ducat, florin, and solidus, but I fear to give them to anything new for fear that the name will be tarnished by association with the new currency.
Re: What is a good name for a World Currency?
Which is why I was reluctant to put "The Dollar" in it.
I voted for "The Mugabe" myself, so I am wondering who voted for "The Loonie".
I am also wondering who was knowledgeable enough to vote for "The Pengo".
