Dammit. I screwed up. The other options are in a separate poll.

And the fourth option was supposed to be "rooting for the Steelers".

(I voted for the asteroid, BTW.)

Thanks Ellie! You have awesome computer superpowers!

(And, at this point, it should be abundantly clear why I scored so low on the "nerd test".

Buck up Aresen,
Ellie has administration rights (I hear she's sleeping with Grylliade himself) granting her compu-fu beyond that what is available to us mere mortals.

Which, when you consider it, is pretty amazing given the fact she's not even an engineer!

I simply have never been much of a spectator. But beyond that I have not been able to develop an enthusaism for a team or for that matter for the game.

I always enjoyed playing sports, hell, I played rugby until I was in my mid-forties and probaly would still be [trying to] if abdominal and knee surgery hadn't done me in.

Actual joke someon told after my abdominal surgery, "Isaac doesn't play rugby any more. He just doesn't have the guts for it."

Issac, I also am not much of a spectator either (although tomorrow I will wake up at 4am to watch the Australian Open, GO FEDERER!)... I remember in high school I was on the varsity volleyball and basketball team. I always chuckled when the cheerleaders would "cheer" us on. I thought "wow, cheerleading is diffcult but I could never be that woman. I would rather be the one they were cheering for!"

Worst. Superbowl.... In recent memory, anyway.

This just put icing on the shit cake that was the NFL this year, and I don't say that because I hate the Steelers (which I definitely do not). I say that because the penalties have gotten completely out of control.

I used to hate the people who said things like "Let them play"...but for chrissakes, let them play!

As it turned out, I spent my time cleaning the bathroom, watching an episode of The Prisoner, and getting all my finances in order. At one point, I heard lots of cheering, so I looked online to see if the game was over, but alas, it was just that the Cardinals had taken the lead with a few minutes left. Fortunately, the Steelers managed to pull it out, so I can bother Cardinals fans for the next two months by saying, "I guess next year's the year, huh?"

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

I voted "Doing something else and not give a damn about the game?" I watched a bit of the game with 3.45 left in the 4th quarter in Nevada and watched the last 45 second in California.

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

I drove out to Nashville with David, since my dad was in town for a conference. We watched the game together, all rooting for the Cardinals. They were adults about it. I threw a few temper tantrums. Also, Warner's last attempt was CLEARLY an incomplete pass, NOT a fumble, DAVID.

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

Gandy couldn't handle Harrison. At all. He was clearly under instructions to hold if he had to, and that's what he did. You can't not call the holds unless you just want to give the game to the Cards. The roughing call was BS, I grant, but it didn't really have any impact on the game, because that was the drive where the Cards held the Steelers out twice and we kicked the field goal anyway.

That last fumble could have gone either way, but I think if you think it was a fumble, you're saying that Warner didn't have possession by the time his hand was moving forward, which I can see.

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

Agree the roughing call was bad, agree the Cards took their chances with some holds and got caught. Penalties and turnovers will kill any team.

I disagree with AR, thought it was an exciting game. Super Bowls have too often been played too conservatively. Not this one. A comeback from 13 points down, dramatic reversal at the half, some dazzling plays and genuine doubt who would win well into the final two minutes, what's not to like? The Harrison interception and touchdown will make the Super Bowl highlights reels forever. And the commercials were better than they had been for the last several years.

And while I'd still probably have rather watched twelve minutes of brilliant new commercials, even the Springsteen set at halftime didn't suck.

Hardly. I enjoyed it. The fact that the Cards didn't fold after that one play, 14 point swing at the end of the first half surprised the hell out of me.

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

The commercials were TERRIBLE. Just so bland and ordinary. Although we started watching during the second quarter, so maybe all the good ones had already been shown.

There weren't any "Ohmygawd, look at that!" ads, I agree; but, on balance, I think this was a better crop than from the last several years. Interestingly, however, the ads for movies and TV shows and channels were a bit better than most of the product ads.

Here, btw, are the commercials for those who think watching a football game is too high a price to pay to watch a few good ads.

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

I thought it was a good game - I was afraid at the half or so that it was going to be a blowout, but it ended up a close one when the Cards finally woke up and started looking like a Superbowl team. I thought the ref'ing was tough, though - 15 yards for just about everything, it seemed like. I agree with DAR that penalties can just kill an otherwise good game for a team.

And yes, the commercials sucked this year. The Potatohead one was about the best, and that's not saying much.

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

Okay, as to commercials, here are a few I thought were pretty damned good:

TV doesn't rot your brain, Alec Baldwin does:

Need a new job?:

Whose future doesn't include a promotion?:

I like the E-Trade baby. The golf game was better but this one was up at Hulu and wasn't half bad:

And finally, come on, the new Star Trek trailer:

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

I think the last fumble was a fumble. to me, it looked like a pump-fake and not a forward pass attempt.

Anyway, I know that my assessment that last night was one of the worst Super Bowls has earned me many a crossed-eyed look today, but (and, again, I say this as someone who rooted for the Steelers), but the lopsidedness (and excessive) officiating threw that game to them. Look at the numbers and the play performance of say, Warner as opposed to Rothelisberger, and, to me, it is clear that the Super Bowl should have gone to the Cards.

Not only were there a lot of non-calls (and yes, I did see a lot of holding on the part of the Cards) that went in "favor" of Pittsburgh, but it felt like whenever there was ref discretion, they called the penalty against Arizona rather than just hold the damn flags. We even witnessed intentional "falling over" to draw the penalty, a dishonest little ploy I thought was reserved to the NBA.

All in all, not a happy win and a game that was punctuated too much with "god damn...there's ANOTHER penalty?"

Re: SUPER BOWL QUIZ: On Sunday, will you be:

I do see your point of view, AR and, hey, if the Cards had been the Skins and gotten those calls? Well, I think we all know which NFL officials would have had to get someone else to start their cars in the morning! (Just kiddin', FBI surveillance people who read this forum!)

But, not having a dog in the fight really, I still found it an exciting game. If the penalties ruined it for you, that's too bad. They didn't ruin it for me or, apparently, for many others. Eye of the beholder, and so forth.
